Royal London One Day Cup 2022 – Friday 12th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Royal London One Day Cup continues on Friday when another six group matches are played up and down the country on what is forecasted to be another sizzling hot day across the UK and hopefully the quality will match the soaring temperatures.

We are moving into the second half of the group phase now so we are getting to the stage where every match carries extra importance. As is the case throughout this tournament we need to load up the live streams to watch the matches.

Group A

There are five teams on four points in an absolutely crammed at the top Group A and two of those sides meet at Grantham on Friday when Nottinghamshire, who lead the way heading into Friday on net run rate, welcome Middlesex. Leicestershire are another team on four points and they are also in action on Friday when they face off against a Somerset side who have lost their opening three matches and might already need snookers to progress. Sussex begin the day in second place and they head to Edgbaston to take on a Warwickshire side who have only played two matches so far with their home ground having been out of use. Gloucestershire are the other team playing who are on four points. They head to Chester-le-Street to take on a Durham side who got off the mark last time out.

Group B

Lancashire are on top of the table in Group B but they are not in action on Friday so second placed Hampshire, who still have a 100% record in the competition, get the chance to move to the top of the table. They head to Derbyshire for what might be the pick of the matches on the day. The other match sees the defending champions Glamorgan looking to bounce back from a first defeat of the campaign on Wednesday when they head to Wantage Road to take on a Northamptonshire side who will also be looking to put a defeat behind them.

Betting

I was a little surprised it took Gloucestershire a couple of matches to get off the mark in this tournament although to be fair one of their defeats was to Warwickshire who might be better than some expect this season. Since then though they have won their last two matches. I don’t think a win over a decimated Somerset necessarily tells us much but their second win against Nottinghamshire suggests they are coming to the boil.

That should be the case too because this is a side with Chris Dent, Marcus Harris, James Bracey and Jack Taylor in the batting order and then Zafar Gohar and Tom Smith with the ball who should come into their own the longer this heatwave remains in the UK, while Paul van Meekeren and Josh Shaw are decent seamers. Durham beat Somerset last time out but they nearly threw victory away in that match and if Chris Rushworth doesn’t pick up wickets with the new ball I really fear for them. Their batting has some decent players in it but Michael Jones and Alex Lees are on international duty. Gloucestershire look the stronger of these two sides to me and carry winning form with them. I think they win this.
