With the World Cup forcing domestic football to shut down halfway through the season there are more midweek round of matches in this campaign and the first of those in the Premier League comes along this week and it gets underway on Tuesday evening.
Four matches take place on Tuesday night and they are all available on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy, however you’ll need plenty of devices available because unlike during the pandemic, they all overlap each other.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Crystal Palace v Brentford (7.30pm – BT Sport 3)
Fulham v Brighton & Hove Albion (7.30pm – BT Sport 4)
Southampton v Chelsea (7.45pm – BT Sport 2)

Chelsea are the biggest team on show in terms of potential title challengers on Tuesday evening. They go into the match off the back of a win over Leicester City and will head away to Southampton looking for another victory which will move them into the top five of the table. Southampton know if they are going to stay up this season their home form will be crucial. Leeds United are actually one of the highest placed teams in action on Tuesday night and they will be looking to move from fifth into the top four when they welcome a currently winless Everton side to Elland Road.
The earlier kick offs sees the one team in the top four heading into the midweek action on show when Brighton and Hove Albion look to move to the top of the table for 24 hours at least. They make a trip to the capital to take on a Fulham side who have made a perfectly credible start to the season. The other match is a London derby at Selhurst Park where Crystal Palace will look to make up for letting a two goal lead slip at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend when they play host to a Brentford side who sit in the top half heading into the week.
Betting
I’m extremely tempted by Leeds United but their lack of squad depth is a bit of a concern to me on a short turnaround so instead I’ll go with Crystal Palace to beat Brentford on Tuesday evening. Brentford have picked up five points from their opening four matches but I’m not entirely convinced by that figure. They should have lost their opening match against Leicester and then the Manchester United they beat were absolutely terrible. Their other point came against Everton at the weekend but I don’t think that’s a great point even allowing for the fact they should have beaten them having dominated on xG.
Palace find themselves a point behind their visitors heading into this match but having had a much tougher start to the season. Already this term they have played three of the potential top four in Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City and although they only took one point from those matches, that is more than some will take and we shouldn’t forget they were 2-0 up at City at the weekend. In the match they were expected to win they did so comfortably beating Aston Villa 3-1. Palace for one of the better home sides under Patrick Vieira last season whereas Brentford often flattered to deceive on their travels. I’m aware that team changes will happen in this round of matches though so I’ll have the draw on my side but if there is a winner I expect it to be Palace.
