CPL 2022 Final – Barbados Royals vs Jamaica Tallawahs Tips and Betting Preview

One team will win a third Caribbean Premier League title on Friday night when the Barbados Royals take on the Jamaica Tallawahs in the concluding game to the CPL 2022 season as the final is played out in Guyana.

Barbados have dominated this season and are one win away from what they will feel is a deserved title success but Jamaica have won two knockout matches to reach this final and will be feeling good about their chances as a result.

Barbados Royals

There was a slight stage where the Barbados Royals looked like they were just teetering on the edge of fading after a few big players left the ranks towards the end of the group phase of the competition but anyone who were worried about their chances need not have been as they showed in the qualifier where they battered the Guyana Amazon Warriors with a clinical display with both the bat as well as the ball.

The batting has been one reason for the success of the Barbados Royals this term. Their openers have in the main gone well throughout the competition and more latterly they have been getting good contributions from the middle order. That has allowed them the freedom to try their combinations with the ball. The key for them with the ball in hand has been that they have clever bowlers who judge conditions very quickly.

Jamaica Tallawahs

This has been a season bookended by good form for the Jamaica Tallawahs. They started like a house on fire, lost their way a bit in the middle when they were travelling from island to island but since they have been in Guyana they have found their form again and in the second qualifier on Wednesday evening they produced arguably the performance of the season. A repeat of that will give them every chance of making it through to a third title.

We know Jamaica have a very good bowling attack but it appears as though they will be without Mohammad Amir for this final which is a massive blow. Even so, their four classy spin operators will be the ones assigned the task of delivering the goods. If their top four can bat like we know they can then Jamaica will have a real chance of getting their hands on this trophy for the first time since 2016 but even without their batters their bowling could keep them in the game.

Key Players

You feel if the Barbados Royals are going to win this match then Jason Holder will need to put in a performance with either the bat or the ball. If he can deliver with both then the favourites will be very hard to beat.

Rovman Powell might need to give himself a larger role in this final if the Jamaica Tallawahs are indeed without Mohammad Amir. Powell might need to bowl more overs but his side will definitely need his batting ability you would think.

Betting

Although the chasing side won both of the league meetings between these two teams, you would imagine the weight of runs on the board will give whoever bats first a really strong chance of winning this final, especially if they do it well, so I’m reluctant to bet on the match outcome until we know the result of the toss. CPL finals have a reputation for being a little disappointing but I don’t expect this to follow suit because Guyana have put on a brilliant show thus far.

The sixes have been good to us here in Guyana so far and I will take them to be once again here as well. I say that because this pitch which will be used for the final is the one the last match was played on and it was probably the best pitch for batting of the entire competition. We have two teams here who bat very deep and who can all hit a long ball and with the exception of Mujeeb there is no mystery to either of the bowling attacks. Add in the dew factor and there is enough to suggest two in form batting units who both scored more than 190 in their last innings can account for more than 14.5 sixes.
