The final match of the week in the NFL 2022 season is all about the AFC West as the Kansas City Chiefs will look to confirm their dominance when they host the Las Vegas Raiders in a tasty looking Monday Night Football.
The Chiefs have started 3-1 for the season and can put an early nail in the coffin of a divisional rival with a victory over a Raiders side who go into the game 1-3 for their year and who surely can’t afford to lose here.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs already lead the way in the AFC West with their 3-1 record and the beauty of that from their point of view will be that they have that record despite only being at home once in those four matches. They already have a win in the division in their only other home game against the Los Angeles Chargers and another here would have them setting a decent pace as we approach the end of the opening third of the campaign.
The Chiefs started their season with a 40 point haul and had another last week. Their offense wasn’t quite as potent in terms of points in the middle two matches but they are still coming to terms with not having Tyreeq Hill so that is understandable. What remains a concern is their defence. They haven’t restricted anyone to less than 20 points in their opening four matches, although we should offer up the caveat that their offense gets down the field so quickly that the defence is on the field longer than they might normally be.

Las Vegas Raiders
When Davante Adams switched Lambeau Field for the Las Vegas Strip there was a lot of optimism that this would be a huge season for the Las Vegas Raiders. It is fair to say that it hasn’t panned out that way so far. They opened up their season with three defeats in succession but to their credit they did win last week against the Denver Broncos, a win which probably doesn’t give off the form guide they might be looking for.
One of the issues the Raiders have had is that Derek Carr isn’t performing to the levels he usually does. That is a surprise given that he has a shiny new toy to exploit but teams are wise to that combination. The positive for Las Vegas, aside from the win last week, was that Josh Jacobs had a career game on the ground and if he can bring an extra man into the box then Carr might be able to find Adams and Darren Waller much easier.
Betting
I think we have to expect points in this match. If you take Maxx Crosby away from the Las Vegas defence there really isn’t a lot that is going to slow Patrick Mahomes down and he has just torn a decent Tampa Bay defence apart so I don’t see the Raiders one having too many answers to him. They haven’t in recent outings with the Kansas City Chiefs having put up 35 points or more in the last five meetings between these two sides.
Were they to do that again then it won’t need too much from the Las Vegas Raiders on offense to see a 51 point line covered. It would only take a couple of scores and a field goal and with Carr likely to have to pass the ball most of the night they should be able to get into positions to do that. This is generally a high scoring fixture between two pass heavy offenses and although one or two of the support casts to the quarterbacks have left, I don’t think the intent will change and I don’t see the number of points dropping too much. I like over here.
