The second night of matches in the MLS Cup Playoffs take place on Sunday evening when another game from each Conference will be played out on a night where the bracket continues to take shape as we wind towards the MLS Cup final next month.
Unlike on Saturday, both the matches are live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy on Sunday evening and both are just about at watchable times too which should make for a decent night for us to sit back and watch the action.
Austin FC vs Real Salt Lake (20.00 – Free Sports)
The opening game of the night comes from the Q2 Stadium where the second placed Austin FC will play their first postseason match when they take on the last team into the playoffs in Real Salt Lake in a Western Conference clash.
Austin FC were one of the better teams in the league over the opening two-thirds of it but kind of limped home after they had secured their playoff spot. The goals of Sebastian Driussi dried up and that has put a lot of pressure on the likes of Diego Fagundez and Maxi Urruti and they haven’t stepped up to the plate. That in turn meant they had to do more defending and that defence was opened up a lot more than it was earlier in the campaign. Real Salt Lake have already played knockout football this season having had to beat the Portland Timbers last week to extend their campaign. To their credit they did it well and they’ll head to Texas feeling really good about themselves. If Austin don’t find the form of earlier in the season their playoff run will be short lived but if they do they should have too much for Real Salt Lake. I’m happy watching this one rather than betting on it.

CF Montreal vs Orlando City SC (01.00 – Sky Football & Free Sports)
The second match of the night is the Eastern Conference clash where the runners up in the regular season table host the seventh placed team which means that CF Montreal go up against Orlando City SC in a real good looking contest.
CF Montreal have been one of the surprise packages of the season, although they have some serious talent in their squad so perhaps we shouldn’t have been surprised at how they have gone. Orlando had to win last week to make it into the playoffs but they have shown on a number of occasions how they can rise to the challenge of knockout football having won the US Open Cup earlier in the season. This sort of challenge won’t concern them so I’m expecting a really good game here. There are goals in both of these sides and I think both will embrace the occasion and have a good go here. Both teams will know this is no time for regrets so I fancy this one will have more than 2.5 goals in it before the victor is determined.
