The second round of the World Championship continues inside the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Sunday on the first day of the tournament where there isn’t a match scheduled to finish after one finished with a session to spare.
By the end of the three sessions on Sunday, the four remaining matches will be due to be one session away from finalising the quarter final line up. The tournament is beginning to get serious now so we should be in for some great action on Sunday.
Day 8 Recap
It was a day of wide margin finishes on Saturday beginning in the morning session when Mark Allen won the opening frame to complete a 13-4 win over Stuart Bingham. The other two results came in the afternoon session where Neil Robertson was shocked 13-7 by Jak Jones. Ronnie O’Sullivan then won with a session to spare when he walloped Hossein Vafaei 13-2. Three other matches played their first session on Saturday. Anthony McGill powered into a 7-1 lead over Jack Lisowski while Si Jiahui opened up a 6-2 advantage on Robert Milkins. Mark Selby will come back on Sunday with a 5-3 advantage on Gary Wilson.
In Play Betting
I already have bets running in two of the three matches which are in play heading into Sunday and one of my outright bets is playing in the other so I don’t really need to get involved in these games at this stage. If I was going to then I would have gone with another punt on Robert Milkins, who hasn’t played at all yet against Si Jiahui but could easily have come out of the session 4-4 rather than 6-2 behind. I think there is still mileage in that one but I’m already on Milkins to win the match. He is only 4/1 with a four frame deficit so I would have been wanting a higher price if I was going to get involved again.

Kyren Wilson vs John Higgins (Sunday 10am, Sunday 7pm & Monday 1pm)
The last of the second round matches to begin does so on Sunday morning when Kyren Wilson takes on the former winner of this tournament in John Higgins in what should be a cracking match across the two days of its life.
Wilson is considered a Crucible specialist and with five tons and a comprehensive win in the opening round against Ryan Day, he certainly did nothing to lose that tag but Higgins is as good here as anyone and he’ll quietly fancy his chances, especially as he can go into this match as the underdog and under the radar a little. While Wilson produced the pick of the showings in the first round, Higgins won his own opening match 10-3 with a couple of centuries and a burst of heavy scoring. The obvious hole to pick in that match was that David Grace couldn’t put a ball in a bucket in the opening session but we don’t need to doubt Higgins’ class when he comes to this venue. I think this will be a really close match and one which could ebb and flow and be a traders dream. The 8/11 on Higgins to make more than 1.5 centuries is the bet which catches my eye in this match. He can score as well as anyone and he’ll need to score to keep up with Wilson in this one. Higgins mentioned that he is delighted how he is hitting the ball and he isn’t one to talk himself up lightly so I think there is something in that and the over on his century line will do me for an opening bet on this one.
