The second round of the World Championship concludes on Monday and by the end of the action at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield we will know the identity of all four quarter final clashes as we head towards the business stage of the event.
Those taking to the baize on Monday will be hoping to make progress towards still being in the tournament the following Monday when the title will be won and lost but just how much action we’ll get remains to be seen.
Day 9 Recap
We were not due to have a match concluding on Sunday but nobody gave that particular script to John Higgins as he took Kyren Wilson to the cleaners, opening up that match with an 8-0 first session sweep before coming back to secure a very impressive 13-2 victory. The other three matches which were in action on Sunday aren’t much closer than that in truth. Si Jiahui will return when he and Robert Milkins have the arena to themselves on Monday afternoon needing just two frames to convert an 11-5 lead. Anthony McGill has the same advantage over Jack Lisowski while it is slightly closer in the other match which sees Mark Selby 10-6 up on Gary Wilson.

In Play Betting
We only have the three matches that are in play to bet on for the play on Monday and in terms of the results they all look pretty clear cut which is never a good thing. Had Robert Milkins and Jack Lisowski been a frame closer I might have tried to make a case for them turning things around but it is hard to see those two turning 11-5 deficits around. In the other match I need three more frames from Gary Wilson to bring the over 21.5 frames bet in against Mark Selby and hopefully he can do that before bowing out.
I will go with one bet on the day and it comes in the match between Jack Lisowski and Anthony McGill where I can see there being another century before it is done. There have been four of them in the match already and there would have been another one had Lisowski not missed the third to last black when chasing a maximum in the second session. Lisowski is as good as out of this tournament now so I expect him to let his arm go and he’ll either make a big break or take a risk to get in and make that big break and leave the balls there for McGill to make it. McGill has already made three tons in this match to go with the one he made in beating Judd Trump in the opening round. Both men have scored pretty well in the match and I fancy a fifth century before McGill makes it to 13 frames.
