The days of no play at Wimbledon on the middle Sunday are behind us now and that means that the second week of the third Grand Slam of the season begins on the first of the two Sundays in the competition.
The tournament has near enough caught up with the singles schedule after the rains of earlier in the week which means that we have just 10 matches from the two singles draws combined over the course of Sunday.
Centre Court
We have a good looking schedule on Centre Court on Sunday with a trio of matches that look very good indeed. We begin with the seventh seed Andrey Rublev taking on the enigmatic Alexander Bublik before the world number one Iga Swiatek looks to make it through to the quarter finals as she chases a first Wimbledon title. The Olympic champion Belinda Bencic will be the player opposing her. We conclude with another Polish star on show when Hubert Hurkacz, who has previously beaten Roger Federer on this court in the past, looks to add the defending champion Novak Djokovic to his list of big name scalps.
Court 1
If you only have a ticket for Court 1 on Sunday you won’t be too disappointed with the schedule. It begins with the fourth seed Jessica Pegula looking to make progress in the women’s draw when she goes up against Lesia Tsurenko before the exciting Italian star Jannik Sinner looks to book a return to the quarter final. Daniel Elani Galan is the surprise opponent standing in his way. Two marquee names round off the show on this court when Victoria Azarenka and Elina Svitolina meet in what looks like being one of the standout matches on the day.

Courts 2 & 3
There are two more courts where there are singles action on Sunday. Most of it comes on Court 2 where Marie Bouzkova will open up the show when she meets fellow Czech player Marketa Vondrousova. When they are done we will get the conclusion of what was a surprisingly one-sided match on Saturday when Grigor Dimitrov returns with a two set lead on Frances Tiafoe. The last of the singles action on Court 2 sees the exciting Denis Shapovalov on show. He meets another surprise package in Roman Saifullin. Over on Court 3, mixed in amongst a bunch of doubles matches Anastasia Potapova takes on the youngster Mirra Andreeva.
Betting
There is just the one bet which interests me over the course of what looks a decent day of tennis. That comes in the marquee women’s match on Centre Court where while Iga Swiatek might well prove to be a worthy favourite, Belinda Bencic has the experience and the grass court comfort to push the world number one hard if not actually dump her out of the tournament and I think the Swiss ace is getting a game or two too many on the handicap.
Bencic is getting 5.5 games and while Swiatek looks better on the grass this year, she still isn’t coming across as completely natural and now that she faces a rival who could beat her I think she is in for her toughest assignment at the very least. Bencic looks to be improving all the time and her win over Magda Linette was her best performance of the competition to date. Bencic has reached five grass court finals in her career so she is very natural on the lawns whereas Swiatek openly admits she isn’t. I think this will be closer than the odds suggest and I’ll ride the Olympic champion with a hefty start.
