A huge weekend in the Premier League gets underway with seven of the fixtures taking place on Saturday on a day where we could well find out much about who will qualify for Europe next season and who could stay in the top flight.
With the stakes getting increasingly higher from here on in the TV matches increase accordingly and on Saturday we have a bonus third TV game to enjoy. The other ones will have updates in all of the usual places.
Early Kick Off
We begin at the London Stadium where West Ham United will look to revive their chances of playing European football again next season when they welcome a Liverpool side who seem to have come to the acceptance that their race has been run as far as the Premier League title is concerned. Both teams suffered nasty defeats last time out and this is the first chance they have had to bounce back and show that they are hurting from what went before. There is no reason to think this one won’t be high scoring.
3pm Matches
Two sides who are battling for spots in Europe next season are in action in the traditional 3pm slot and they both play host to a team in the bottom two of the table. Manchester United are currently on course for a top six spot but with a group of sides chasing them down they can’t really afford to slip up when they host Burnley at Old Trafford. Newcastle United are one of those teams and they’ll be looking to see off Sheffield United, who might well be out for a bit of revenge after their 8-0 trouncing in the reverse fixture.
Luton Town will be looking to come out of the bottom three for 24 hours at least in one of the other matches. They head to Molineux to take on a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who are seven without a win since they lost to Coventry City in the FA Cup quarter final last month. The other match see two sides without much to play for in action as Fulham welcome Crystal Palace for a London derby with the visitors looking to build on two very impressive wins over the last week and the hosts aiming to bounce back from defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

Late Games
We have two matches that follow the 3pm games, both of which are on TV. The first one looked like it was going to be a huge clash when it was selected for a TV slot as Everton play host to Brentford with both sides deep in the relegation picture but both have won their last two matches to ease concerns of the drop. The second one is much more important though as Aston Villa look to further consolidate their place in the Champions League next term. They host a Chelsea team who were abysmally bad at Arsenal in midweek and will surely be keen to bounce back and show they are better than that.
Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day and they both come in the late games. We begin with Brentford to get the better of Everton. I wanted to play Brentford with the draw in play but the fact that Everton have pulled clear of safety and a draw isn’t the worst result for either of them I’ve got to take it out of the equation. I saw Brentford at first hand last week and they were excellent. They were strong defensively, which is half of the battle in this match, and then the movement and the quality in attacking areas reminded me why they have been a top half side for a while. I don’t rate Everton and even in midweek when they beat Liverpool that was just a horrible Liverpool performance. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there is a comedown from that though and Brentford are primed to take advantage. They have had their troubles this term which have been publicised with Ivan Toney and his ban and ridiculous injuries but they look in a good place. Everton haven’t won a home game in which the opposition has scored this season and I don’t see them keeping a clean sheet here. I’m with the visitors without the draw.
I also think we are going to see goals in the Aston Villa against Chelsea match. There just has to be a reaction from Chelsea in this one. If there isn’t then Mauricio Pochettino is in big trouble. It helps that Cole Palmer is back for this match because it means Chelsea are going to be more of an attacking threat but I can’t be having this Chelsea defence at all. If they line up with Marc Cucurella, who has to play with Ben Chilwell injured, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile in the back line this could be carnage. Villa are as free scoring as anyone at home and I mentioned in midweek that Chelsea ship way too many on the road so I like over 3.25 goals in this one rather than the Villa handicap just in case Villa get ahead and Unai Emery rests one or two for the European game in midweek.
