It is quarter final day in the men’s and women’s event at the WDF World Darts Championship at the Lakeside Country Club on Friday where all eight remaining singles players will battle it out for spots in the semi-final.
We’ve had shocks and surprises in both draws so far but the format increases for the men here so it will be interesting to see if the cream rises to the top or whether the surprise results keep on coming on what looks like a decent day of darts.
Afternoon Session
The action begins with a boys match in the afternoon session but when that is done we have a women’s quarter final between two surprise packages in Lerena Rietbergan and Aletta Wajer. The first men’s quarter final sees Francois Schweyen looking to continue his fine run so far when he takes on the Swiss ace Thomas Junghans before Aileen de Graaf looks to make it back to another semi-final when she faces off against the young star Sophie McKinlay. A decent looking afternoon schedule concludes with the Irish qualifier Shane McGuirk when he meets the highest ranked player left in the top half of the draw in Peter Machin.

Evening Session
As with the afternoon session, the evening session begins with another boys match and when that is done the veteran Deta Hedman will be looking to make it through to the final when she meets Nicole Regnaud. The one remaining former champion in the men’s draw is on stage after that when Neil Duff goes up against a Jason Brandon who is yet to drop a set in the tournament. The last of the women’s quarter finals sees the defending champion Beau Greaves taking on Jitka Cisarova before we finish off the day with the man who took out the tournament favourite in Jarno Bottenberg. This time he faces the crowd favourite in Paul Lim for a semi-final spot.
Betting
I might get a lot more involved in this tournament over the weekend when the format really goes up but there is one bet which I can’t ignore on Friday and that comes in the one between our outright bet in Jarno Bottenberg and the legend that is Paul Lim. This is the final match of a decent looking day of darts but it is one which I believe could be a step too far for the veteran for whom the schedule is beginning to go against him.
Lim only played on Thursday night and to play a best of seven set match less than 24 hours later is a tough ask for most let alone someone who is in his 70s now. Bottenberg has looked very good in this tournament and is of an age where playing long matches each night isn’t going to worry him. He was solid on the doubles in beating the favourite Jimmy van Schie on Thursday night whereas Lim hasn’t always impressed on the outer ring. Bottenberg is scoring well and finishing decent enough and I think he puts out the popular Lim with a bit in hand here.
Tips
Back J.Bottenberg (-1.5 sets) to beat P.Lim for a 3/10 stake at 1.83 with William Hill
