Sky Bet Championship 2024-25 – QPR vs Luton Tips, TV and Betting Preview

A dramatic Sky Bet Championship weekend concludes with a Monday night match this week as two sides much lower in the table than they would want to be meet at Loftus Road when QPR play host to Luton Town.

QPR have found some form in recent times to pull away from the relegation zone whereas Luton are beginning to slide dangerously towards the trap door so this is likely to be a competitive game which neither will want to lose.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Football channel with the build-up beginning at 7.30pm ahead of the 8pm kick off in the capital.

QPR

QPR finished last season really well when they were threatened by relegation to the extent that many thought that they would be huge improvers this time around. That hasn’t really happened yet but having spent the opening third of the season in the relegation zone once again, they have picked up form in recent times to pull right away from immediate trouble and now they will be having their eyes on the middle of the table and beyond. A win here would move them to one spot off the top half of the table.

QPR go into the match off the back of a run of just one defeat in their last 10 outings and more importantly for this match they have won their last four at Loftus Road. They have already made a signing in the January transfer window and are getting players back from injury so there is every reason for the R’s to be excited going into this match, especially when they know that they have already been to Kenilworth Road and won this term.

Luton Town

This definitely hasn’t been the season that anyone connected with Luton Town would have been expecting. Having given staying in the Premier League a good go, many expected them to be challenging for an immediate return to the top flight at the very least, if not actually secure it. That certainly isn’t happening and now they really need to be careful that they don’t exit the Championship in the direction opposite to what would have been their aim.

Luton are in a real slump at the minute. They have picked up just 14 points from their last 15 matches and have lost their last nine games away from home and their last three overall, scoring just once in that time and that goal was gifted to them. They haven’t been helped by injuries it has to be said but a stubborn refusal to change formation by Rob Edwards has left the Hatters in trouble. They will be desperate to snap their losing streak on their travels here and put some breathing space between themselves and the relegation zone.

Team News

Marti Cifuentes has already moved quickly to recruit Southampton defender Ronnie Edwards on loan for the remainder of the season and with him being the replacement for the injured Steve Cook, the centre-back could make his debut here.

Luton boss Rob Edwards will be able to welcome Joe Johnson and Liam Walsh back from suspension while Lamine Fanne Dabo could make his debut for the club. Alfie Doughty could be ready to return to the side as well which will be a real boost.

Betting

When you look at this match I think it is fair to say that QPR look a huge price when you consider that they have won their last four home matches in the Championship and Luton have lost their last nine on their travels in the league but those kinds of runs of form don’t last forever in this competition and they usually end when they are least expected to, that is the nature of the beast when it comes to betting on this league. I still wouldn’t put anyone off backing QPR but Luton are getting players back which makes me want to look elsewhere.

The better bet could be the both teams to score one. Luton haven’t scored in two of their last three away matches but generally they do score in matches but their defence just doesn’t work in the formation that Rob Edwards employs so there is a high chance of both teams scoring here. These two met here in the Carabao Cup in August and at Kenilworth Road three days later and both teams scored in both of those matches. QPR will be confident on home soil while Luton aren’t in a position to sit back and wait to be beaten so I like both teams to score here.
