The day begins with the opening blows in Group B being played out and it is the top seeds in the group that get us underway when Sadio Mane and his powerful looking Senegal side battle it out against a Zimbabwe team who are suffering from a few injuries heading into the event. Once they are done another Liverpool star will be on show when Naby Keita takes to the pitch with his Guinea outfit. They go up against a Malawi side who could just be making up the numbers in this contest.
The later part of the day sees the attention turn to Group C which is one of the more open groups in the competition. We have our first real heavyweight battle of the tournament to get us underway when the North African powerhouse of Morocco take on a youthful Ghana outfit before the two supposedly lesser sides in the group meet when the tiny islanders of Comoros take on a Gabon outfit who have flattered to deceive a little in recent times and who might be without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for this one.
Betting
There isn’t a lot which takes my fancy over the course of the day. I’m easing my way into the tournament in these opening games but one side I did fancy to go well before the tournament started was Morocco. History would suggest they won’t win the event because North African sides have a poor record at doing so away from the dry desert part of the continent but I can see them winning their opening match against a Ghana side who are a youthful outfit in transition.
You couldn’t say Ghana were overly convincing in qualifying for this or the latest stage of the World Cup event and as a rule they don’t score many goals. That is in stark contrast to Morocco who have tons of goals in them, so much so that they have been able to leave Hakim Ziyech at home for this tournament. He would walk into most teams in this competition so that is how strong they are. I expect Morocco to come out firing and I think they will have too much for a young Ghana side.
