Africa Cup of Nations 2021 – Wednesday 12th January Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Wednesday at the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 sees the remaining matches in the first set of games being played out as the two sides yet to start their campaign in Group E and all four teams in Group F coming to the party.

Once again we have three of the heavyweight nations in the competition on show over the course of the day as we see what the remaining teams in the tournament have to offer on what should be another good day of football.

Where to watch

The three matches will be shown live and in full across the Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Football channels.

Tunisia vs Mali (13.00)

The opening match of the day sees two of the big guns colliding in the first match in Group F as Tunisia take on Mali in the match which could very well decide who it will be who comes out on top in the section overall.

These two go into the tournament with punchers chances of winning the event but Tunisia will have to overcome that nasty statistic about North African sides if that is going to happen. Mali look ready to do some damage but I’m not sure it is going to happen here. I say that because I sense this will be a defensive battle. Mali won their World Cup qualifying group without conceding a single goal while Tunisia only conceded two in a tough group. We have seen throughout this tournament that these 1pm games are pretty turgid affairs because of the intense heat in this part of the world. So far all they have yielded is a 97th minute penalty across two matches. I’m not expecting much difference here so under 1.75 goals might be a decent price.

Mauritania vs Gambia (16.00)

The second match of the day is the other match from Group F where the two lesser lights meet in what could be a tournament defining match for both should the two stronger teams in the section dominate like they are expected to.

These two sides have done well to make it into this tournament so now that they are here they might feel that they have a free hit. The concern I have got Gambia is that while they won a more than competitive group to qualify for this, they have a couple of players who ply their trade in League 2 in England and I’m not sure that is the required level for this competition. This is the second time in succession that Mauritania have qualified for this event but they didn’t make much of an impact in the first one. This has to be a watching brief.

Equatorial Guinea vs Ivory Coast (19.00)

The last of the first set of matches in the competition sees another of the fancied runners in the event on show when Ivory Coast begin their tournament when they take on Equatorial Guinea in the only Group E match on Wednesday.

Equatorial Guinea are made up of players who ply their trade in the lower reaches in Spain but they were competitive in both their group for this tournament and their section in World Cup qualifying and they’ll fancy their chances of pulling off an upset here. This is a huge tournament for Ivory Coast. They are already out of World Cup qualifying before the final stage so their only chance to showcase themselves on a big stage this year is here. They have named a strong squad but clearly there is an issue within if they are going out of World Cup qualifying so early. I’m tempted by Equatorial Guinea here but I think this is another one that might be best left alone.
