It is the final day of Last 16 action at the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday after which we will know the line up for the quarter finals as the tournament begins to draw towards a close out in Cameroon next week.
Three genuine title contenders and one of the surprise packages have made it onto a very attractive looking card on Wednesday which should ensure we get a couple of very enjoyable matches to watch and get stuck into.
Ivory Coast vs Egypt (16.00 – Sky Main Event, Sky Premier League, Sky Football, BBC iPlayer)
The opening match of the day on Wednesday sees two of the better sides in Africa going at it when the Ivory Coast take on an Egypt side who will be looking to offer an awful lot more than what they have so far at this tournament.
Ivory Coast have been very good at this event and but for a keeper shambles in their second group game they would have qualified with a 100% record. They bounced back from that mess to demolish Algeria in their final group match and look ripe to go further in this event. Egypt have flattered to deceive to date. They were edged out by Nigeria on the scoreboard but in reality they were given a good beating in that match and then qualified with tame 1-0 wins over Sudan and Guinea-Bissau but there was nothing impressive about that. Unless there is a lot more in Egypt they might have a problem here. Egypt rely on their defence but that is going to be tested against a decent Ivory Coast offense and I think eventually the Ivorians will break through. If they then keep Mo Salah quiet it can be them heading to a quarter final date with Morocco.

Mali vs Equatorial Guinea (19.00 – Sky Premier League)
The second match of the night and the last of the round of 16 matches to be played sees our pre-tournament pick Mali taking on the surprise package of Equatorial Guinea for the right to be the opponent of Senegal in the quarter final on Sunday.
Mali have come through this tournament so far with the minimum of fuss with the only goal they have conceded being a late minute penalty against Gambia in the middle group game. We have already seen two teams from their group come through their last 16 matches so Mali certainly have the form behind them. Equatorial Guinea won’t have been expected to come out of one of the tougher groups of the draw but despite going down to the Ivory Coast in their opening match, they rebounded with wins over Algeria and Sierra Leone but they look to lack a bit of firepower for my liking. I think Mali will win this but as my outright bet I’m happy to let them ride.
