ATP Cincinnati 2022: Western & Southern Open Tennis – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The latest Masters 1000 tournament is down to the final four and on Saturday the two semi-finals of the Western and Southern Open will take centre stage at the ATP Cincinnati tournament on what should be a very exciting day of tennis in Ohio.

We have got a juicy opening semi-final in the day session to look forward to and then an intriguing one later in the evening as the four remaining players look to set themselves up for a shot at a big title on Sunday and head to New York in prime form.

Day Session

Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

The opening semi-final pits two of the best in the game against each other when the world number one Daniil Medvedev clashes with the Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas in a heavyweight clash.

Both these two men have been made to battle for their place in this semi-final. Medvedev was pushed close by Denis Shapovalov earlier in the competition and his match with Taylor Fritz in the last eight could easily have gone the other way too. Tsitsipas had to come through a decider to end the challenge of John Isner in the previous round but having been beaten in the last four here last year he’ll be extra motivated to come out on top here. Medvedev looks to be winding into top form but Tsitsipas is a match for anyone on his day so this is one to watch for me rather than bet on.

Night Session

Cameron Norrie vs Borna Coric

The second semi-final sees two of the lesser lights having their chance to shine when the British number one Cameron Norrie takes on the Croatian player Borna Coric for a place in the final.

These two had very different quarter finals. Coric eased past a disappointing Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets while Norrie overcame Carlos Alcaraz in a physically demanding clash which lasted well over three hours. Norrie is a fit man and might not be as disadvantaged by the short turnaround as some would be but it can’t help him in this match. Coric should start this one quickly and unlike some players he has the ability to hit through a jaded Norrie. Even if this gets physical the fact the Croatian hasn’t played much this year should mean he isn’t inconvenienced by that. We’ve seen the schedule impact too many big matches this season already and this might well be another. I’m with the fresher man here.
