The first round of the ATP Miami Open concludes at the Hard Rock Stadium complex on Thursday when those yet to get their campaign underway among the unseeded fraternity of the competition do so with the aim of setting up a tie with a seed over the weekend.
We saw some really good tennis on the opening day of the competition and there is no reason to think that will change on Thursday with the likes of Sir Andy Murray, Seb Korda and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga among those on the schedule.
Stadium
There are two matches in the Stadium on Thursday as the seeded women come into play in their event. The first men’s match opens up the schedule in the land of the Miami Dolphins when Seb Korda takes on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina while we have to wait until the night session for the second one to come around. That pits Federico Delbonis, who was seeded in Indian Wells last week, taking on Andy Murray who will be looking for a deep run here in Miami after a tame loss in Indian Wells last week.
Grandstand
That means we have three matches over on the Grandstand throughout the day session on Thursday. The first of those sees the exciting American player Jenson Brooksby on show once again. He’ll take on Federico Coria in a match he will be expected to come out on top in. When they are done Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will continue his return to the tour when he meets the seasoned Australian player Jordan Thompson. The last of the ATP matches on this court sees another American on show as Tommy Paul takes on Benjamin Bonzi for a place in the next round.

Best of the Rest
There are plenty of other players in action around the grounds at the Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday and they include the Indian Wells quarter finalist Miomir Kecmanovic, the popular American player Jack Sock who won the doubles with John Isner last week, Lorenzo Musetti, J.J Wolf, Ugo Humbert who will be looking to get his career back on track and Lloyd Harris, the South African who is in the same boat.
Betting
I’ll go with one over the course of Thursday and it comes fairly late on over on the Butch Buchholz court where Marcos Giron takes on Marton Fucsovics in a match which is likely to be quite close if the rankings are anything to go by. I’m happy to be on the outsider here in front of his home crowd though. Giron will have been disappointed to lose to Lorenzo Musetti in the opening round in Indian Wells but his US hard court swing hasn’t been too bad that aside.
He took care of Tennys Sandgren and Taylor Fritz in Dallas, the latter looking a really good result now after Fritz took down the Indian Wells title last week, and then when he went to Mexico he saw off Pablo Carreno Busta so Giron is going well. Fucsovics also lost in the opening round last week and went down in three set matches in both the Middle East tournaments. You sense that Giron is in better form of the two and on home soil I think he can battle to a win at a shade of odds against.
