ATP Miami Open Tennis 2025 – Day 9 Tips and Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the ATP Miami Open conclude on Thursday when the three remaining matches are played out at the Hard Rock Stadium as we find out the four players who will battle it out in the semi-finals of the latest Masters 1000 event.

We were due to have just two matches on show on Thursday but a pretty poorly thought out schedule overran on Wednesday and so the match which wasn’t able to be played has been added to the Thursday card.

Day Session

Arthur Fils vs Jakub Mensik

The opening match of the day sees two youngsters with a huge opportunity to reach a Masters 1000 semi-final when the French ace Arthur Fils competes in his second quarter final on the sunshine slam when he takes on Jakub Mensik.

Fils has lived a bit of a charmed life in this tournament but he has made it through to the last eight. He probably should have been beaten by Frances Tiafoe two rounds ago and he was 3-1 down in the deciding set to Alexander Zverev on Wednesday and survived both matches, although it has to be said he would have been a sitting duck against Zverev had the rain not pushed that match to another day. He is going to have the same problem here though. Fils had a medical timeout during the win over Zverev claiming that his back was starting to feel the exertions of all the tennis he has played recently and he has had next to no time to recover from a gruelling contest. Mensik has no such worries. His last 16 opponent Tomas Machac didn’t show up so the Czech hasn’t been on the court for three days so he should be fresh as a daisy. In these intense conditions at the height of the day that has to be worth something. Mensik was playing well anyway having seen off Jack Draper in the second round and the longer he keeps Fils on court for the better his chances of winning this will be. Freshness feels like gold here and I’ll take Mensik as a result.

Seb Korda vs Novak Djokovic

I previewed this game on the Wednesday preview and not much has changed in the space of 24 hours. The delay will have given Korda the chance to rest his wrist for a bit longer and Djokovic isn’t as convincing in the heat of the day but I would still expect a Djokovic win so all I wrote on Wednesday still stands should you want to use that for advice on this one.

Night Session

Taylor Fritz vs Matteo Berrettini

The last of the quarter finals sees the other American remaining in the draw in Taylor Fritz going up against a back to form Matteo Berrettini for the right to take on the winner of the opening game of the day in the semi-final.

Fritz and Berrettini have met on four occasions in their careers and the American has won on all four occasions and I expect him to win here too. If this was on one of the outside courts which are said to be playing much quicker than the stadium one then you could see a case for backing Berrettini in some fashion but the slower court should bring the better all-round game into play and that clearly belongs to Fritz. Most of their recent sets have gone to a tiebreak, and were this on Grandstand then I would definitely be looking in that direction for a bet but it isn’t and I’m just not convinced that Berrettini will be as effective on this slower surface and especially at this time of night where the balls don’t fly as quickly either. I wouldn’t want to take Fritz on the handicap in case of tiebreaks but the odds against on him winning 2-0 feels good to me when you consider that he hasn’t dropped a set in any of the last three against the Italian, which has included three tiebreak sets.
