India begin their tour of Australia on Wednesday when the first of three T20 internationals take place in Brisbane. I wouldn’t think this series will mean too much other than to set the battles to come up but you never like to lose.
The big question over the next few months is going to be whether India have the bowling attack to take it to Australia. We might not find out in the 20 over matches but they have the chance to show their worth here.
Australia
Try as they might there doesn’t appear to be much that Australia can do to end their losing run in this format of the game. They were well beaten in the three matches that they played out in the UAE recently and they were beaten by South Africa before they got going on Saturday so there is a lot of work to do for the home side here.
Aaron Finch said his side were too one-dimensional after that defeat to South Africa and he is absolutely right. Until that changes they will win fleetingly but they will never find consistency because there are a lot of situations in T20 matches that need managing and a lot of game understanding which creates the outcome of the results. Australia lack that.
India
The last time we saw India they were taking care of the West Indies in this format of the game and that was pretty impressive considering they had one eye on this tour all along. I wouldn’t go as far as to say India are at their strongest in this format but they are a very good side in it, as most teams who have two or three quality mystery spinners are.
We know the concern over the Indian side however. Their top order is as strong as anything going around in the modern game but when you get beyond the top four their batting slows up dramatically. They usually get away with it in the 20 over game but as we go on through this tour that is something that needs to be looked out for and worked upon.
Team News
Australia are set to retain the seam only bowling attack for this match which would probably work given the square boundaries are the longer ones here. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon are being saved for the Tests.
Virat Kohli is back for India after he took the West Indies T20s off but there is still no MS Dhoni. India need to decide whether to play both leg spinners. Khaleel Ahmed looks set to keep Umesh Yadav out of the side.

Betting
It is hard not to go with India in this match given the troubles that Australia have been having in this format of the game. Australia are being bashed out of the match right from the beginning and when their batsmen are under pressure they get reckless and don’t manage the game right at all.
India are not completely perfect in this format of the game but they bat deep and they have enough variety in their bowling attack to contain this Australian batting line up. To put it simply I believe India are more street smart and game smart than Australia and ultimately that can prove to be the difference.
