Bangladesh vs Pakistan – 3rd T20 Tips and Betting Preview

The swift T20 international series between Bangladesh and Pakistan comes to a close on Monday and although the series has already been decided, any thoughts of a dead rubber for the final game in Dhaka can be dampened with the reminder that the next T20 World Cup is just 11 months away.

Pakistan have won both the matches that have taken place so far over the weekend and will be eyeing up a clean sweep here. Bangladesh have Test matches to come against Pakistan and will be eager to avoid going into them off the back of a whitewash.

Bangladesh

There is no getting away from the fact that this has been a disappointing series for Bangladesh so far. They have one last chance to salvage some pride from it but they are going to need to do that because the optimism that they built when they took care of Australia and New Zealand prior to the World Cup is quickly fading. All isn’t great on the field and there is a sense that things aren’t much better behind the scenes, which is never a good combination.

Bangladesh really haven’t batted very well in this series and that is a legacy from the T20 World Cup where they were very ordinary with the bat too. They have gone down the blooding the youth route in this series but there haven’t been too many signs that those coming through are good enough. They have bowled well in the main but that hasn’t made a difference because they have had nothing to defend and have been on a hiding to nothing.

Pakistan

Pakistan have won the series with plenty in hand. They haven’t played their best cricket in the series yet but with the series in the bag it wouldn’t be a surprise if they relax and let their best form flow. In fairness to them, the conditions haven’t really been conducive to great cricket so we should probably praise Pakistan for the series they have put together so far. If they happen to show more in this match then that would be a bonus.

The one thing Pakistan have notably done in this series is rotate their bowlers. They know there is a lot of cricket to come over the next 12 months and they will also be aware that they could go very well in the next T20 World Cup in Australia next year so they appear to be making sure there are no burnout issues. They haven’t rotated their batting as much and it will be interesting to see if they do that here now that the series is won.

Team News

Bangladesh have added bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi and batter Parvez Hossain Emon to their squad for this final match. Both would be debutants should they be selected. There is still no Shakib-al-Hasan or Mushfiqur Rahim.

Pakistan have given a rest to Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi and so it might be the turn of Haris Rauf to sit this one out. It could be Afridi who replaces Rauf if that change is made. That might be their only change for this match.

Betting

Sometimes in matches when series are won we see a completely different contest to the ones which we live and with pressure on them. I’m not so sure that will be the case here though I have to say. I just don’t see anything in this Bangladesh batting unit that tells me they are good enough to cope with this Pakistan bowling attack. I’m still wary of betting on the outcome of a match without a live competitive edge to it though, especially as the pitch makes betting the handicaps very tough.

I will put my money where my mouth is on the Bangladesh batting front though and take the under in their boundaries. The line is 12.5 which you would think normally looks low but these pitches aren’t conducive to hitting boundaries and Bangladesh haven’t been very good at it in this series. They have nine and 10 boundaries in their opening two matches and in the match with 10 boundaries six of them were hit by the number six or later in the innings which can’t be relied on too often. Pakistan are all over Bangladesh and I don’t see that changing here.
