Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka – 2nd ODI Tips and Betting Preview

Bangladesh have the chance to wrap up their ODI series with Sri Lanka on Tuesday when the two sides are back in action in Dhaka for the second match of the three games. Not only is the series on the line but more World Cup qualifying points are on offer too.

Sri Lanka go into this second match of the series knowing they have to win it if they are to force a decider, but of more importance to them will be the World Cup qualifying points that come with the victory.

Bangladesh

When you consider the last time we saw Bangladesh in ODI cricket prior to this series was when they offered up little competition to New Zealand, they will be delighted with their performance in the opening match. They were never going to be at their best given the players they had coming back and the change in conditions so you would think that there is still more to come from the home side here. That is something that will enthuse them.

It was the senior players who got the job done for Bangladesh in the first game and if an ideal world exists in this series then some of their less experienced players would stand up and make a name for themselves but whoever it is who gets the job done for them they just need to keep winning to avoid going to that World Cup qualifying event which can be treacherous as you are bringing tired wickets and possibly indifferent weather into the mix.

Sri Lanka

It was clear going into the series than Sri Lanka were going to be a work in progress throughout all three matches and that is clearly the case now we have seen them in a competitive match. You sense it will take a while to find the right balance to their team both in selection and order and it might be that they utilise their squad throughout these three matches ahead of the series in England which looks a daunting assignment.

I would imagine Sri Lanka would have been pleased with their bowling effort in the first game of the series even if they did let Bangladesh get away from them after having them in a tricky position at 90 or so for four. Where they won’t have been so pleased is with the bat in hand where too many players got out cheaply and although the lower order nearly rescued it for them, relying on them long-term isn’t likely to be a successful method.

Team News

Mustafizur Rahman gave Bangladesh fans a scare in the opening game when he went off the field mid-over in the second innings. He returned to finish his spell though and is expected to be fit in a likely unchanged Bangladesh outfit.

Sri Lanka might decide to make changes for this match. They appear to be going down blooding youngsters but even then it might be hard to keep the form of Niroshan Dickwella on the sidelines when they batted so poorly in the first game.

Betting

There is said to be a bit of rain around the Dhaka area on Tuesday so I’m not sure what is going on with regards to the likelihood of a full game any things like that so I’m not going to back Bangladesh and run into them getting done up on DRS or anything like that. That makes me head to the side markets but there’s no real point going into the runs, boundaries or sixes if the game is shortened so I’ll take a player performance.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the player in question particularly with his line as low as 29.5. The odds might only be 8/11, but when you factor in that he didn’t bat in the first game and still ran up a point total of 110, that is still a perfectly acceptable price. Miraz might not take four wickets in this match but when you consider it was four of the top six that he got out it can’t be ruled out, and he certainly might not take the three catches he took but when you consider his first wicket in the opening game was a caught and bowled which would be enough for the over to land here, there is more than enough scope for him to get at least 30 points and more.
