The Barclays Premier League weekend concludes at White Hart Lane in a Monday Night Football which was due to see Tim Sherwood take his Aston Villa side to his former club.
Sadly for the former Spurs boss he was relieved of his duties last weekend so Spurs will face a manager less side in this match up.
Tottenham go into this match off the back of their huge 5-1 win over Bournemouth last weekend and having beaten Man City 4-1 here a few weeks ago their season has really come to life in recent weeks.
Mauricio Pochettino has no new injury problems to contend with so we should be expecting his side to build on their recent results even though they haven’t always been the most reliable against the weaker sides in recent seasons.
Aston Villa disposed of Sherwood’s services after a defeat to Swansea last weekend which saw them drop to the bottom of the Premier League table. Since then they have exited the Capital One Cup but with a more lively performance.
Villa’s defence has been rotten this season and they could do without their captain Micah Richards getting himself into trouble with the FA. You get the feeling Villa have the tools to deliver going forward but keeping goals out is a real issue.
Tottenham have a decent record over Villa having won nine of their last 13 meetings and I think they will win this match. They haven’t lost a league game since the opening day of the season while Villa haven’t won since the opening day so something pretty major is going to have to change for that form to contradict itself here.
It must be said Tottenham were flattered by the scoreline last week but not the victory and they are an infinitely better side than Villa right now. Villa look stuck in a rut to me and with no new manager to guide them out of it I’m going to take Tottenham to win with a bit in hand with my confidence boosted by Harry Kane’s return to form.
