With no Monday Night Football this week there are three Premier League matches on Sunday with some big clubs looking to fire their seasons into life once and for all.
Two of the three matches are televised on Super Sunday. They are the London derby between Tottenham and Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane followed by the battle of the Dutch managers as Southampton host Man Utd at St Marys. Away from the cameras Liverpool take on Norwich at Anfield.
The first game of the day promises to be a cracking match. A couple of weeks ago I would say the odds would be even tighter here. Crystal Palace have a wonderful away record whereas Spurs had began the season slowly.
In fairness to Tottenham they have banked two wins in the last week but they looked anything but convincing against Sunderland and I’m not really sure what they beat in the Europa League in midweek so they could still be there for the taking, particularly after the short turnaround.
Palace are probably the last side Spurs want to be facing here with all the pace, power and movement they have in attacking areas. If the Spurs players have any heavy legs they will get found out here.
Palace have pushed City and Arsenal close at Selhurst Park this season and they’ve already been across London and seen off Chelsea. I’m not totally convinced they win this match although they’re not 3/1 shots to do it but I certainly think they can get a result of some kind.
In the other TV match I still can’t get a feel for Man Utd. My gut instinct tells me they’re primed to be turned over but Southampton haven’t been fantastic either so I will sit that one out.
I will however take Liverpool on in the other match. Liverpool haven’t impressed me at all this season apart from 45 minutes at the Emirates and with Norwich being such a confident side on the road this has all the makings of a banana skin for Liverpool.
The Reds were in France in the Europa League on Thursday night which is never ideal and the short recovery time could be something they didn’t need here. In fairness Liverpool’s defence had looked a lot better but it’s been opened up by West Ham and Man Utd now and there’s still nothing dazzling going the other way.
Norwich are likely to concede goals but they are likely to score them too and I fancy them to get a result in this match but at the very least if they lose I’m expecting it to be narrow so a +1 Asian line is a really good line for the Canaries and one I’m happy to get stuck into.
