Saturday was a crazy day in the Premier League with goals all over the place apart from at Old Trafford and that has set the league up nicely for another bumper day of action on Sunday.
Thanks to Southampton’s Europa League exploits there are three matches in the top flight on Sunday with West Brom hosting Chelsea in the early game while Everton take on Man City in the second half of the Super Sunday double bill. Away from the live TV cameras Watford take on Southampton at Vicarage Road.
The action begins at The Hawthorns where all eyes will be on Jose Mourinho and his side to see if they can pick up a first win of the season. They’re not the only ones looking for an opening win of the campaign in that match though as West Brom are too.
West Brom have already been well beaten by Man City on their home patch this season but they did show they had reorganised when they drew 0-0 with Watford last week and they will be out to keep things tight in this match.
Saido Berahino is expected to feature despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future. Arsenal loanee Serge Gnabry is also hoping to feature while Venezuelan Salomon Rondon is hoping to make his full debut having joined recently.
Chelsea have looked pretty ordinary so far this season and really need a spark to kick them into life. They were strangely open against Swansea in their first match of the season and then torn apart at times by Manchester City in their second match.
Since then Mourinho has brought Pedro and Baba Rahman into the squad and both could start here. One man who will definitely start is Thibaut Courtois who returns from the suspension which kept him out last week.
I’m expecting this to be quite a tight match. Chelsea just want a win. They won’t care how it comes or go out of their way to make it a big win while West Brom just want to get this game out of the way and get cracking against teams more on their level.
Tony Pulis has mentioned in the past that he got it wrong against City when they were opened up almost at will so he’ll pack the centre of the park here. I fancy Chelsea to win but I’m expecting less than 2.5 goals a lot more.
In the other games I tend not to get involved in sides in the Europa League when they are on the road the game after, certainly not from a backing them point of view and I’m not changing that for Southampton. I need to see Watford get a win before I can back them too.
In the other live game I’m expecting an open match but I can’t quite make my mind up on whether Everton will score for sure. They might not need to in order for the over 2.5 goals to be covered but I’d be much more confident if I fancied them to score. As it is I’ll just watch that and play the Chelsea game only.
