The penultimate Super Sunday of the season sees three matches in play in the Premier League with two in front of the cameras and one away from the spotlight of live TV.
Tottenham vs Southampton
Tottenham had the agony of seeing Leicester celebrate the title which means that all they have to play for now is second place but when you think who they are fighting with for that position coming second would be pretty significant for all Spurs fans.
Southampton saw West Ham lose on Saturday and they know if they can finish the season strongly there might yet be a chance of European football for them next year so they have plenty of motivation of their own.
On a normal Sunday I would expect Spurs to win this one but with Dele Alli and Moussa Dembele out with suspension I’m not as keen on them particularly at the prices. I’ll sit back and watch this one I think.
Liverpool vs Watford
This match has some interesting dynamics to it. Do Liverpool care about the league anymore or is their season just all about next Wednesday? That should be their focus and I’m sure it will be.
Amazingly there is some talk doing the rounds that Quique Sanchez Flores could be out of a job at the end of the season despite Watford’s encouraging first season back in the top flight. If his players want to keep him in a job it would help if they were to perform for him here.
I’m not sure Liverpool will care much for this match and I don’t see Watford doing much either based on recent efforts so this is another match which is pretty easy to leave alone especially with not knowing how the European exertions will have affected the home side.
Man City vs Arsenal
Without doubt this is the match of the day and it could become quite a significant one because third place is between these two in the table and whoever gets that position at the end of the season will avoid having to qualify for the Champions League group stage.
I guess the big question is what will City’s exit in the Champions League in midweek have done for them? They will either feel sorry for themselves or it will give them the bit between their teeth. Either way losing Vincent Kompany in midweek was a big blow.
Arsenal are finishing the season well and if Spurs have slipped up earlier in the afternoon they will have the chance to move level with their arch rivals in second place in the table and there can be no bigger motivation than that.
I’m tempted to back Arsenal here but I’ve been burnt enough to stay reluctant and instead I like over 2.5 goals in this one. City’s defence without Kompany doesn’t have a good record but it is hard to see Arsenal keeping a clean sheet against this City attack. I fancy the goals might flow in this one so I’ll take the overs.
