The Big Bash League season stops off in Brisbane for the first time this season on Friday when the Brisbane Heat take on the Hobart Hurricanes in what is the third match of the tournament for both sides.
Brisbane have won both their matches so far in the event while Hobart have a win and a defeat but they will both be fairly pleased with their starts to the campaign. You get the feeling this is a big game for both though.
Brisbane Heat
Brisbane are the only side with two wins from their first two matches this season but things could have gone completely differently as there were stages in both matches where they looked set to lose and probably should have lost but they rescued themselves from the dead both times which will have done wonders for their belief.
Chris Lynn was the man with the heroics in the last game for the Heat while in the first game it was the captaincy of Brendon McCullum which got them over the line but in both matches the trend was that their batsmen had to win matches for them because their bowlers couldn’t maintain any pressure that had been built up.
Hobart Hurricanes
The Hobart Hurricanes looked a really good side in their opening match when they annihilated the Sydney Sixers but they were brought down to earth with a bit of a bump in their second match when the Melbourne Stars were far too good for them so they will need to pick themselves up to go again in this one.
Both matches the Hurricanes have played their batsmen have done the business for them but in the second one their bowling attack resembled cannon fodder and they need to ensure that is a trend that doesn’t continue. The bowlers will be up against it on this wicket though.
Team News
Brisbane Heat have named an unchanged 13 man squad for this match and it would be a big surprise if they don’t name the same starting 11 too unless they decide to play an extra seamer over a spinner.
Hobart have made two changes to their squad with Dom Michael getting the inevitable chop and Sam Rainbird dropping out too. Ben McDermott and Simon Milenko come into the squad but it could be Jon Wells who replaces Michael in the side.
Betting
Matches between these two tend to be high scoring and I don’t think this one will be different to that. The Gabba is the best batting track in the country and matches here are generally high scoring. Throw into the mix that both bowling attacks are struggling and I’m expecting the batsmen to make hay here.
With that in mind I’m taking the boundaries in this match. The line looks a little high at 39.5 but we’ve already seen both sides involved in matches which have flown over this total on bigger grounds than this one. I’m expecting to see at least 40 boundaries here.
