The Big Bash League is back in Adelaide on Wednesday as two of the form sides of the competition meet in what looks like a tasty match on paper as the Adelaide Strikers host the Hobart Hurricanes at the Adelaide Oval.
The winners of this match will go level on points with the Perth Scorchers at the top of the table and will all but secure a semi-final spot so there is plenty of incentive for victory in this match for both teams.
Adelaide Strikers
The Strikers were well beaten in their previous match when they took the Big Bash to Alice Springs for the first time and they will look to get back to winning ways. While they will only care about winning the match they would hope for a strong batting performance as there are doubts about them in that department now that Travis Head has left.
The one area where there are few concerns for the Strikers comes with the ball where they remain very strong. They have a good crop of seamers and their spinners can be hard to get away so it isn’t as though they need a mountain of runs from their batsmen, just enough to make a par score or slightly over.
Hobart Hurricanes
There is no side in better form than the Hobart Hurricanes right now. They have won their last five matches having begun the season slowly and if anything they look to be getting better with each match and growing in confidence each time they step out onto the field too. There can be no better feeling than that.
Much of the Hobart success has come through the insane run scoring of D’Arcy Short and he is showing no signs of slowing down but one or two others are beginning to make significant contributions which is a massive thing. Their key bowlers are all standing up to be counted too which bodes well.
Team News
Adelaide have added Kelvin Smith to their squad as they look for extra batting talent. He might well come into the side too given their struggles with the willow last time out.
It is probably no surprise to anyone that the Hobart Hurricanes have named an unchanged squad for this match. Their side is likely to be unchanged too unless they want to bring someone in for Simon Milenko who hasn’t played much of a role recently.

Betting
I like the Hobart Hurricanes here. All along I have had concerns over the batting of the Adelaide Strikers and once Travis Head left for Australia duty that was only ever going to increase and they did nothing to settle my doubts with their performance at Alice Springs.
There is no weakness to the Hobart Hurricanes. They are batting brilliantly, led by D’Arcy Short but all of a sudden by no means constrained to him and their bowling has been up to scratch throughout the tournament. Hobart have already beaten Adelaide this season and with the Strikers’ batting the way it is I’m on Hobart to complete a season double over them.
