Big Bash League 2017-18 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Betting Preview

There is one Big Bash League match on Thursday when the Hobart Hurricanes host the Adelaide Strikers at Blundstone Arena. Both sides go into the game off the back of wins last time out so we should get some quality cricket.

Hobart are in need of the win despite their victory last time out. Having begun with a couple of hefty defeats they need to balance the ledger as quickly as possible. Adelaide are one of only two sides with a 100% record and they will be looking to maintain that.

Hobart Hurricanes

It was a poor first two matches for the Hurricanes but a decent length break came at the right time for them to take stock, regroup and go again and they delivered a really good performance against the Sydney Thunder in their previous match. They now have to build on that but you suspect they are a confident enough bunch.

The big thing for the Hobart side is that their batting fired in that win over Sydney. D’Arcy Short was in exceptional form but he was well backed up by the top order and when they all fire they are going to be hard to beat because they have a bowling attack which is full of pace and venom which is not necessarily easy to get away.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers picked up a huge win in their latest outing which came when they extended their perfect New Year’s Eve record. They put up a par or thereabouts total before destroying the Brisbane Heat with the ball for a huge margin victory which not only gave them a third win on the bounce but also heavily enhanced their run rate.

It must be said that there remains a concern with the depth of Adelaide’s batting and if their top four don’t make a significant contribution they may be reduced to some low totals but even then they have the bowling attack to restrict sides to low scores. Interestingly they have batted first in all three matches. It will be interesting to see how they go chasing.

Team News

Hobart Hurricanes have named an unchanged squad for this contest and all things being equal they will name an unchanged starting XI too unless they decide Tymal Mills has been too expensive.

Adelaide Strikers are also unchanged from their last outing on New Year’s Eve and they too may go in with the same starting line up that featured for them in that match.

Betting

This should be a good match with both sides winning last time out and in truth I think the prices are about right. Given how well both teams played it is hard to pick a winner of this one. I would probably favour the Adelaide Strikers but Hobart shouldn’t be dismissed with home advantage so I’ll look elsewhere for a bet.

That comes in the sixes where a line of 11.5 might be one or two too high. This Adelaide bowling attack is hard to get away with the pace of Stanlake and Siddle and the canniness of Laughlin and Neser combined with the outrageous skills of Rashid Khan. With the bat in their hand there aren’t a lot of big hitters in this Adelaide side either. The Hobart attack is not easy to plunder so all things being equal 11.5 could be a shade on the high side. I’ll go with the unders.
