Big Bash League 2017-18 – Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers Betting Preview

The second half of the double header in the Big Bash League on New Year’s Day is a repeat of last year’s final as the Perth Scorchers host the Sydney Sixers for the second time this season. Perth won the reverse meeting as well as that final so the Sixers will be desperate to get one over their rivals.

Perth Scorchers still have a 100% record this season and if they win this match they will move clear at the top of the table. Sydney Sixers also have a 100% record but not the one they desire. They have lost all three of their matches.

Perth Scorchers

Despite having nothing like their full squad out at any stage in this tournament the Perth Scorchers have continued to find ways to win even when it looked like they were out of matches. They came from the clouds to beat the Sixers in the opening match of the season and defended a low total against the Melbourne Stars too.

If there was a criticism to be made with the Scorchers then it comes from the fact that they have not really fired with the bat but they are missing a host of batsmen and can’t keep a settled unit so we can cut them some slack. One area where they are performing is with the ball. They look the strongest side in the tournament with the ball.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers have had a horrible start to the season in terms of results but you could easily make a case for them winning the first two games. They were all over the Thunder in the first game but let them off the hook and the same thing happened against the Scorchers too. They followed that up by being well beaten by the Adelaide Strikers in a match where the scoreline didn’t reflect how well they were outplayed.

Sydney just haven’t got going with the bat yet this season and that unit really needs to fire soon else the Sixers will be out of the competition before it has truly got going. They managed to make 160 against Adelaide last time out but they needed some lower order hitting to get there. The one positive is that they have bowled well so far, the odd over or two aside.

Team News

Perth Scorchers have lost another man since their last match. Ashton Agar has been called into the Australia squad for the final Test and he misses out here. Haydan Morton has been given permission to join the squad.

Sydney Sixers have made one change to their squad. That is to add Mickey Edwards to their ranks. We’ve found out since their previous match that Moises Henriques is going to spend time away from the tournament so Johan Botha will lead the side again.

Betting

I’m tempted to back under with sixes but I was ridiculously caught out with that in the Perth Scorchers’ last match so I’m reluctant to get involved again but I will take a bet involving the sixes in this match.

That is for Perth to hit the most of them. Sydney Sixers never managed a single six in the meeting between these two at the SCG and their top six only hit one in their following match too. It won’t be easy to hit this Perth side for six at any point. Perth are hitting plenty of sixes and we might well see David Willey go up the order again which will do the chances of them hitting the most no harm at all. At even money I like Perth Scorchers to outhit a misfiring Sydney batting line up.
