Big Bash League 2018-19 – Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers Betting Preview

2019 begins with a double header of Big Bash League action with the opening match of the two on New Year’s Day coming from the Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast as the Brisbane Heat go in search of their first win when they face the Sydney Sixers.

It has not been a good beginning to the campaign for the Heat with successive defeats and in truth they have barely been competitive in either of those matches. The Sixers have a pair of wins and a couple of defeats so they will want to go ahead in their season ledger here.

Brisbane Heat

The Brisbane Heat did not end last season how they wanted to and they have certainly not made the start to the current campaign that they would have hoped to. I always have fears for teams coached by Daniel Vettori. His record in charge of Bangalore and Middlesex is pathetic and he hasn’t exactly pulled up trees in Brisbane even allowing for one of the most powerful batting line ups in the competition.

Actually it has been their batting that is yet to perform in this tournament. The top order has not really fired and as a result their strained batting has been unable to deliver the sort of scores their bowling attack has needed to be able to defend small grounds. To date in the competition their key batsmen have a top score of 33 and that is going to have to improve significantly for them to have a chance.

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers have had an up and down beginning to their campaign so far. They won their opening match but then lost a couple of games before they got the better of the Melbourne Renegades in their last game. They will be looking to build on that victory when they head to the coast for this match.

The Sixers bowling attack has been their star turn in the tournament so far and if their entire batting order ever delivers a complete performance they are going to take plenty of beating. They are on the road for the foreseeable future but if they can pick up a few results with a run of home matches to come then they might yet make it into the top four come the end of the campaign.

Team News

Brisbane Heat have made a couple of changes to their squad for this match. Alex Ross and James Pattinson have been added to it with Mark Steketee and Matthew Kuhnemann being the ones to make way.

Sydney Sixers have also made a change to their squad too. Greg West comes into the squad with Lloyd Pope exiting it in their only change. Ben Manenti will be looking to build on his fine debut against the Renegades.

Betting

If this match was taking place on a normal sized ground then I would have a go with the Sydney Sixers as I’m always a believer in the better bowling attack winning these T20 matches but the fact that the ground is so small and hard to defend takes away a lot of their appeal and leads me into another direction.

In the first match on this ground we saw a number of sixes and given the dimensions of it I’m expecting to see loads more here, especially with this being a day match and the pitch perfectly fresh. The Sixers might not be the biggest hitting side in the world but they should clear the ropes enough for a 12.5 sixes line to come in with the amount that Brisbane hit on top. On this ground I would be surprised if we don’t see 13 sixes here.
