Big Bash League 2018-19 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder Betting Preview

There is one more match in the Big Bash League on Friday and someone’s 0 will have to go as the Hobart Hurricanes play host to the Sydney Thunder in a clash between two unbeaten sides so far in the tournament.

The Thunder make the trip to Tasmania top of the pile in the fledgling table while the Hurricanes have gone under the radar a little two a pair of victories from their opening two matches so we should be in for a great game of cricket.

Hobart Hurricanes

The thing about the Hobart Hurricanes’ campaign so far has been how comfortable both of their wins have been. At no stage really have they looked in any trouble and the reason for that is unlike a lot of the sides in this tournament, their openers have been in great form. They have laid the platforms for the rest of the team to flourish and complete the job.

The other reason why they have been so comfortable is that their bowling attack has been so solid. They are hard to get after at the beginning of the innings and tough to get on the offensive against at the death, especially if they have taken wickets throughout their bowling effort which is often the case. The beaten finalists of last season look primed for another heavy tilt at the title.

Sydney Thunder

In seasons gone by the Sydney Thunder have either been all or nothing so they should take a lot of heart and confidence from the fact that they have won both their matches so far. It is still fairly early in the peace but it does suggest that we are going to see good things from the Sydney outfit for much of the campaign, if not all of it.

In many ways the Thunder have been similar to the Hurricanes. Their top order hasn’t been quite as amazing as the Hurricanes’ one but it has got them off to decent starts and they have some of the better bowlers in the competition. Sydney don’t lack for spin options and that is a move that appears to be serving them well so far this term.

Team News

The Hobart Hurricanes have named an unchanged 13 man squad for this match. Jake Doran and David Moody are expected to sit out again as there is no discernible reason for the team to change based on their efforts so far.

Sydney Thunder have made one change to their squad for the clash with Arjun Nair returning from injury. He comes in for Matt Gilkes which means that Jono Cook stays in the squad after his good spell in the Sydney derby.

Betting

I’m expecting a good match here between two sides who are on top of their game. Blundstone Arena is usually a scene of good games of cricket where the runs can flow but where the bowlers often feel that they are in the game so there is nothing to suggest that we won’t see a top game here.

With all that in mind I like over 11.5 sixes in the match. Both these sides have plenty of power at the top of the order and a bit of depth in terms of the hitting ability. Their bowlers can be hit out of the park and with this being the second match of the tournament on this ground we might well find that there is a short boundary somewhere. With the power on show we won’t need that short boundary though so I’m happy to get on the over here.
