Big Bash League 2018-19 – Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Sixers Betting Preview

The Melbourne Renegades will attempt to keep pace with the Hobart Hurricanes in the one Big Bash League match taking place on Saturday. They play host to the Sydney Sixers at the Marvel Stadium looking to maintain their 100% record.

The Sixers made a good start to their season with a win in their opening match but they have lost two since and could do with getting back on track as quickly as possible so both teams should be full of desire in this match.

Melbourne Renegades

The men in red have won both their matches so far and in Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers they have knocked off the last two winners of the competition so there can be no finer start to a campaign than that. What I have liked about the Renegades is the fact that they have won two different ways and I always think that is the sign of a good team.

It was the bowlers who got them over the line on this ground in their opening match and then in the second match their batsmen got the job done. If they put a complete performance together at any point then they are going to be tough to beat. The second win was particularly eye catching because there were clear concerns about their batting going into the competition.

Sydney Sixers

The Renegades were not the only team for whom there were doubts over their batting heading into the tournament. The Sydney Sixers had the same worries coming their way before the campaign begun and to be fair in their last two matches those fears have begun to come true. In their last two outings they have been restricted to less than 150 and that is not going to win many matches in this tournament.

Generally when a side is weak in one area they are very strong in the other and that applies to the Sixers. They have a very competitive bowling attack which includes the leading wicket taker in the tournament to date and a couple of very strong options alongside them. If their batting can just get going then they could yet be a force to be reckoned with.

Team News

Will Sutherland is now away on Australia under-19 duty so he is one of three changes to the Melbourne Renegades squad. Joe Mennie and Kelvin Smith also drop out with Beau Webster, Mackenzie Harvey and Jake Fraser-McGurk coming in.

The Sydney Sixers have also made a change as they look to avoid a third straight defeat. They have brought Lloyd Pope into the side to replace Greg West as they strengthen their bowling resources for the trip.

Betting

There is a part of me that has a hunch that the Sydney Sixers are worth gambling on here but I just can’t bring it in me to rely on their batting line up so in the end I’m going to revert to the bet that has landed a couple of punts against the Sixers already and hopefully will go in again and that is the most sixes one.

Melbourne Renegades might be without their Test openers but they are clubbing enough sixes to make me think that they will hit the most of them here. Mohammad Nabi, Dan Christian, Tom Cooper and Cameron White can all hit a long ball and in two matches the Renegades have hit eight more sixes than the Sixers have in two. Sydney have only hit six sixes in the competition to date and three of those came from their bowlers. I’ve got to think the Renegades hit the most here.
