The first match of the Big Bash League after Christmas is a clash between the last two winners of the competition as the former champions Perth Scorchers take on the current holders Adelaide Strikers in the Perth Stadium.
Both sides have begun this campaign slowly and so this becomes a pretty important match for the pair of them. The Scorchers are still looking for their first win which is unlike them while the Strikers were beaten last time out and will be out to bounce back from that.
Perth Scorchers
It is not very often that the Perth Scorchers are 0-2 after a couple of matches but to be fair to them when they usually do get going they soon get on a run and it might be that in a couple of weeks we are wondering what we were concerned about. I think there is a right to be concerned here though because they have not begun the season well with the bat and that must change if they are to turn things around.
As always though there is a positive from the first two matches. Their bowling attack looks in decent enough shape so if they can sort things out with the bat then we know they have the quality to pick up wins regularly. They could really do with a good partnership from their top three though just for the team confidence as much as anything else.
Adelaide Strikers
The defending champions got their season off to a good start with a solid win against the Brisbane Heat but they came unstuck against the Melbourne Renegades when a very good middle order partnership got the better of them. The beauty of knowing you are a champion side means that you know there is no need to panic after a loss and I’m sure that the Strikers won’t do that.
It was an unusually poor day with the ball for Adelaide against the men in red and in many ways that is a positive because they don’t bowl badly too often. Normally when they are beaten it is because their batsmen haven’t delivered. Sometimes their batsmen can be a little hit and miss so the fact that they haven’t been too bad should be seen as a good thing moving forward.
Team News
The Perth Scorchers haven’t named their squad for this match yet but they will be without both of the Marsh brothers as they have been named in the Australia side for the third Test with India. Cameron Bancroft serves the final game of his ban.
Adelaide Strikers have made one change to their squad with Wes Agar coming into it. Liam O’Connor has been left out of the squad. Peter Siddle is not included in the Australia team for the third Test but whether he can get from Melbourne to Perth in time remains to be seen.

Betting
I usually wouldn’t expect to see many sixes in a match between these two sides but on this ground I’ve got to think we are going to see them flow. This is not a big ground by any means and with the pace and bounce on show in both attacks we could see 10.5 covered in top edges for six rather than anything else.
Although both bowling attacks are full of quality they will pitch the ball up which will invite the big shots to the smaller boundaries so although this might not be the highest scoring game I do believe we will get enough sixes to see this line covered relatively smoothly enough.
