The Melbourne Stars will find out where they have to travel to in the Big Bash League final on Sunday when the second semi-final takes place at the Marvel Stadium when the Melbourne Renegades play host to the Sydney Sixers.
The Renegades go into the match looking to set up a Melbourne derby final but the former champions Sydney Sixers are going to have plenty to say about that so we are all set for a cracking second knockout game.
Melbourne Renegades
The Renegades head into the semi-final off the back of a defeat to the Hobart Hurricanes in their previous match and as we saw with the aforementioned Hurricanes in the opening semi, it is not easy to switch form on and off. The one good thing for the Renegades was that they were already through but it goes without saying that they have to be at their best in order to come through here.
The big worry throughout the competition for the Renegades is that their batting is not reliable. In the main it hasn’t had to be because their bowlers have been wonderful but there has been the odd case when the bowlers have gone round the park and that is when they have generally been in trouble. It is important that both facets of their side work well here.
Sydney Sixers
For much of the regular season it looked like the Sydney Sixers would finish in second place and be hosting this match, but they were pipped at the post in that regard and now have to make their way to Melbourne looking to pick up a road win to make the final. If they can do that they are entitled to believe they are favourites for the final, especially with their experience of having won the trophy before.
Unlike the Renegades, although there were concerns over the batting of the Sixers heading into the competition, they were soon snuffed out and now as a result the Sydney outfit look a very well balanced one indeed apart from their shocking batting effort last time out. They have a bowling attack to rival many if not all in the competition and then when they get the bat in hand they have an order who know their roles and are delivering them expertly in the main.
Team News
The Melbourne Renegades have been dealt a bit of a blow in that Mohammad Nabi has been called home to prepare for an Afghanistan series. Cameron White has returned from injury though and will take his place in the squad.
The Renegades are not the only team to have lost an overseas player, Sydney Sixers have lost one too as Tom Curran has headed for the Caribbean to link up with England. He is out, as is Lloyd Pope with Ben Manenti and Justin Avendano replacing them in the squad.

Betting
All but one match on this ground this season has been low scoring so even though the total runs line for this match is in the 200s rather than the 300s at 287.5 I’m still tempted by the under. Both matches between these two teams have not even threatened going over here and with both teams shaky with the bat on paper and much strong with the ball I think the way forward is the under on that line.
Another thing to consider is that until the final day of the campaign this match was being played in Sydney and in truth nobody really could have foreseen the brutal beating Sydney took to deny them hosting the game so this track is either going to be used or underprepared. Either way, I don’t think it is necessarily going to be easy to bat on so I’m happy to be on the under here.
