There is a triple header of action in the Big Bash League on Sunday with the first match of the three coming from Sydney as the Sydney Thunder takes on the defending champions Adelaide Strikers in a match in which both teams will be looking to enhance their position.
Both sides have had up and down campaigns to date so this is the chance for each of them to get their seasons on track and launch a run that will get them into the finals. Given that is the case we should see a competitive contest.
Sydney Thunder
The Thunder go into this match off the back of a disappointing defeat to the Brisbane Heat last time out although the rain did them no favours at all in that contest it has to be said. In saying that, it was unlikely they were going to chase down a daunting looking total anyway, in what was a rare off day for their bowlers. They will need to ensure that they get back on track here.
Sydney Thunder have been one of the better teams in the competition with the bat so far but with players now coming and going it will be interesting to see whether they can maintain their intensity and quality with the willow. The good thing is that by and large their bowlers deliver the goods so they don’t need massive totals in order to get themselves over the line most of the time.
Adelaide Strikers
The Strikers took a while to get going this season but they have won three of their last four matches and are now on the fringes of the top spot once again as they bid to defend their title successfully. In those victories they delivered the goods with the bat and it is vital moving forward that they continue that if they are going to retain their crown.
One thing we know about the Adelaide side is that they are unlikely to go around the park with the ball. They have good bowling options and good strategies so if they get their batting firing as a unit there is no reason why they won’t be able to find the consistency to power their way back into the mix once again.
Team News
Jos Buttler and Joe Root have now left the scene for the Sydney Thunder which means that Chris Jordan and Anton Devcich will replace them. Jay Lenton will start as he is the only keeper in the squad.
Adelaide Strikers will remain without Peter Siddle and Alex Carey who are away with the Australia ODI squad but Billy Stanlake has been allowed to play in this match. He will come in for Wes Agar while Travis Head also features.

Betting
Given the changes that have been made to the Sydney Thunder side I want to see how they all gel before I get involved in betting on them to win or otherwise so I’m going to head to the side markets for a punt on this game with the player performances market of particular interest. Daniel Sams is the man I have my eye on.
He has a line of 30.5 for this match which he has covered twice with the bat and three times with the ball and he has also covered it in a combination of them as well. He has been one of the better performers for the Thunder this season and totalled 65pts overall when these two met on New Year’s Eve. I see no reason why with the form he’s in he can’t go past 30.5 here.
