The is one match in the Big Bash League on Friday and it comes from the Adelaide Oval where the Adelaide Strikers host the Melbourne Renegades in a second clash between the two sides on this ground this week.
The Strikers won that first meeting earlier in the week and it will be interesting to see if the Renegades have anything to offer in return or whether we are going to see a repeat of what went down on Tuesday.
Adelaide Strikers
It was probably the most convincing performance for the season so far for the Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday but with three sides within four points of them in the standings it is clear that the South Australian outfit can’t afford to slip up, especially in this match against a Melbourne Renegades side who have become detached from the rest of the teams in the table. That puts a bit of a pressure on them in this match but that shouldn’t be an issue.
The big thing for the Strikers in that match was that their batting delivered the goods and maybe even more importantly was that their middle order were the ones who got the job done. We know their top order can go off on a going day but their line-up has always felt a little on the light side. If that performance is something that continues it could turn the Strikers from a team who might hang around into genuine title challengers.
Melbourne Renegades
To be fair to the Melbourne Renegades, for 15 or so overs in their bowling innings in the previous match they were putting up arguably their best performance of the competition but things completely fell apart in the last five overs and from there you just knew they weren’t going to win the game. They got off to a fair enough start in the run chase but as has been the case throughout the tournament so far, when they lost a wicket they fell tamely away and ended up losing heavily.
Something really needs to change for the Renegades moving forward. This is the second season in a row that it hasn’t worked and they are out of excuses now. It isn’t a personnel thing but even with a decent XI they can’t seem to get players in the right roles to bring the best out of each player. There appears to be a lack of fight in them too because when things go against them they seem to just collapse. One more defeat here and they are probably done for the season.

Team News
Nobody will be surprised to know that the Adelaide Strikers have named an unchanged squad for this match and it would be more than a minor shock if there is a change in the starting XI unless there is a late injury issue.
More of a surprise is the fact that the Melbourne Renegades have selected the same 17 man squad for this match despite the heavy defeat. That means there is no Shaun Marsh or Rilee Rossouw. Peter Hatzoglou might be recalled to the side.
Betting
I took the under in runs in the opening match between these two and given that the line wasn’t threatened despite the Adelaide Strikers putting up a decent score. The line hasn’t really changed here and given that there is absolutely no sign of an improvement from the Melbourne Renegades with the bat I’m pretty happy to take it again. The line has adjusted to 316.5 here which still means that both sides need to push 160 for this to be covered and that sort of score looks beyond the Renegades at the minute, especially against this attack. In all there were 282 runs in the previous game between these two and when you think in half of their innings the Renegades have scored 111 or less, the under has to be taken here.
I’ll also have a play on the youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk to be the top score for the Melbourne Renegades. There weren’t many who looked good for the Renegades in the previous match and there hasn’t been many who have looked good for them all series in truth but the youngster did look ok and hopefully he gets shoved up the innings and given a chance to show what he can do as a result of that. I’ll pay to see if he can beat more established opponents at 10/1 particularly when you think two of the three men to pass 40 in an innings for the Renegades this season won’t be playing in this match.
