Big Bash League 2020-21 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Tips and Betting Preview

There is one match in the Big Bash League on Tuesday and it comes from the Aurora Stadium in Launceston as the Hobart Hurricanes take on the Adelaide Strikers for the second time in this fledgling campaign.

The Hurricanes ran out winners when these two met on Sunday so it will be interesting to see if the Strikers can make the necessary adjustments in a relatively short space in time, or whether the Hurricanes pick up their third win of the season.

Hobart Hurricanes

The performance from the Hobart Hurricanes was a whole lot better in their second match against the Sydney Thunder than it was in their opening win over the Sydney Sixers. They were a lot more in control throughout that game than they were in their first match and the good thing for the ‘Canes is that there is still much more to come from them as key players return or come into the side. With that in mind they will be perfectly happy with the start they have made.

You get the impression that already the Hurricanes batting is waiting to really explode. It threatened to do that against the Strikers in the last game but couldn’t fully maximise an excellent position at the three-quarter mark in their innings. That will surely come soon and when it does they are likely to win matches even more comfortably than they have done so far because their bowling attack looks to be finding a nice groove as well.

Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers will have been disappointed to lose their opening match and even more so that they weren’t really competitive in the main but one excuse they can have is that the Hurricanes had already played a match and shook off the rust that had formed over the close season. Adelaide got the opportunity to do that on Sunday and so there are no excuses for them not to perform here. We should expect plenty of natural improvement from the former champions.

The concern for the Adelaide outfit going into the tournament was a possible lack of depth in their batting and that rang true in that opening game. The scoreboard completely flattered them after some fun and games for the last pair but their top order got shot out and they are going to need to sort out their line up if they are to go deep in this competition. Getting players back will help but they still look awfully light which is only going to pile the pressure on their bowlers even more.

Team News

Hobart Hurricanes will welcome Ben McDermott back from Australia A duty to reinforce a batting line up which has already gone pretty well in this competition. Dawid Malan remains in quarantine so misses out once again.

Adelaide Strikers have Alex Carey back from Australia A duty and his appearance will be a welcome boost to their light looking batting line up. He replaces Harry Nielsen in the squad but the Strikers remain without their captain Travis Head who is away with Australia.

Betting

I’m expecting a high scoring match at the Aurora Stadium despite the previous one between these two perhaps not being as frequent with runs as what I was expecting at Blundstone Arena. I would be amazed if the Adelaide Strikers top order all collapse in a head like they did in that match though, particularly when the two tail enders showed their batsmen how you can score runs against this Hurricanes side, even if they were batting with the freedom of a match having been lost by that point.

Hobart look to be even stronger with the bat for this match which is certainly no bad thing especially when the run line for this match is as low as 323.5. These two sides have met at this venue in the last two seasons and have played out matches with 339 and 362 runs in them and neither team has been as strong with the bat as they are here due to various call ups. We’ve seen Hobart smack it everywhere and I’m expecting enough of an improvement in the Strikers to get this line nicely covered.
