NFL 2020 – Baltimore Ravens @ Cleveland Browns Tips and Betting Preview

The final match of week 14 of the NFL regular season comes along in the Monday Night Football when two AFC North rivals collide in a huge match as the Cleveland Browns take on the Baltimore Ravens in what should be a cracking spectacle.

These two teams have seen the Pittsburgh Steelers lose this week already so there is the chance for one of them to make ground on those. That will be more of a focus for the Browns while the Ravens know this is not a match they can afford to lose as they chase a play-off berth.

Cleveland Browns

This looked to be another season that was heading nowhere for the Cleveland Browns when they were well beaten by the Baltimore Ravens in the opening week of the campaign but despite some high profile injuries, nine wins from their next 11 matches have them handily placed for a wildcard berth in the AFC and if they can find a way to extract revenge on the Ravens here then they can still chase down the Pittsburgh Steelers in the race for the AFC North title.

The Browns go into the Monday Night Football off the back of four wins in a row and if they can make that five here and build on their win over the Tennessee Titans last week then everyone is going to have to take them really seriously. There is a concern that their defence might not be as strong as it might need to be at this stage of a season but any team who puts up 40 points on the Titans is going well on offense.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens spent the first part of the regular season looking like they were genuine Super Bowl contenders but then Covid-19 hit them like it has a lot of the sides and understandably with all the chopping and changing both in their schedule and personnel, their form took an unwelcome dip. That has left them fading away from a shot at the AFC North title but they are still in the running for a wildcard spot and if they get to the postseason and are healthy they remain a team nobody will want to face.

The Ravens are usually renowned for their strong defensive play but they have more than a few injuries in that department heading into this match which isn’t ideal. The positive is that Lamar Jackson returned with no ill effects in the win over the Dallas Cowboys last week and he is more than capable to leading a side to victory in a shootout if that is the way this one ends up going. The Ravens’ offense is going to need to perform here for sure.

Betting

Although this one should be extremely competitive given that it is a divisional clash and important for both teams, I think it might be high scoring. The Cleveland Browns don’t tend to need too much in the way of an invitation to get involved in a shootout and with the injuries that the Baltimore Ravens have on defence they are likely to have to open up their play book and make sure their offense gets them down the field so that they can put points on the board to negate that.

Although most of the Ravens’ offensive play will come on the ground, they run the ball strongly enough that they won’t chew up too much of the clock for a modest point line to be covered still. I can see this one quickly turning into a shootout and if it does then 45.5pts is a pretty low looking line. There were 51 points when these two sides met in the opening week of the season and I expect the final total to be pushing the 50 mark if not go beyond it here too.
