The Big Bash League heads to the Marvel Stadium on Tuesday for the latest clash in the competition. All the matches seem to be carrying real importance and as the Perth Scorchers take on the Brisbane Heat this one is no different.
These two sides begin the match either side of the qualification line in terms of making it through to the finals of the competition or not so this is arguably the biggest game of the season to date. We should be in for a cracker.
Perth Scorchers
The Perth Scorchers looked to have found their groove but they failed to come out on top in the acid test against the Sydney Sixers last time out, a defeat which ended a winning streak which had stretched to five matches. Losing to the team who have kicked clear at the top of the table is no shame but it did mean that they failed to answer the question that is hanging over them which is whether they can win regularly away from Perth.
They get another chance to answer that question here and with four of their five wins to date coming on home soil. It is something they will need to convince people that they can do else you wouldn’t fancy them in the postseason should they get that far. You sense their batting needs to deliver the goods better on pitches away from the Optus Stadium which might not suit their bowling attack as much as that one does.
Brisbane Heat
The Brisbane Heat have to be given a lot of credit for turning their season around in the way they have. Three matches in they looked to be going absolutely nowhere but they have started winning and their only defeat in their last five matches came in a last-ball thriller against the leaders Sydney Sixers where Dan Christian had a day out with one of the best innings of the competition. The Heat are surging almost out of nowhere.
To their credit they are doing it with both sides of their team working. Their batting has elevated its level in recent outings and in turn that has released some of the pressure from their bowling attack. The only question you would have over the Heat now is whether they can get themselves over the line in a close finish. They have lost a number of tight matches this season and don’t truly convince in the pressure moments but that isn’t an issue if they don’t let matches get that tight.

Team News
The Perth Scorchers have named an unchanged 15-man squad for this fixture and with Mitch Marsh and Ashton Agar ruled out for the remainder of the campaign it would be something of a surprise if they don’t go in with the same XI that played against the Sixers even though they lost that match.
Brisbane Heat have also named an identical squad to the one they went in with last time out. Morne Morkel was used as an X-Factor sub in that game and it remains to see whether he starts this one. Jack Wildermuth went round the park in that game and could be the one most vulnerable to miss out.
Betting
The Perth Scorchers look very short to me in this match but I’m not yet at the level where I want to be siding with the Brisbane Heat even allowing for their much improved form. To be fair they only need to be a little bit bigger to tempt me in but at the current price I’ll leave the match betting alone. Instead I’ll head towards the sixes markets where there are more than enough hitters on show to clear the 10.5 in this match.
This ground has four matches on it in the next five days so you’ve got to think the pitch will play at its best in this game. This ground isn’t the smallest in the competition but there are still pockets of it where the ropes are quite short and these two teams are like baseball teams in that the hitters just keep on coming one after another. With Mujeeb out of the way there is nothing in terms of mystery spin to worry about for either set of batsmen so I expect the big bombs to come pretty regularly here.
