Big Bash League 2020-21 – Sydney Sixers vs Brisbane Heat Tips and Betting Preview

There is one match in the Big Bash League on Sunday and it comes from the Metricon Stadium over on the Gold Coast as the Sydney Sixers continue their title defence when they take on a Brisbane Heat side who will be looking to continue their good recent form.

The Sixers saw their city rivals Sydney Thunder open the door for top spot on Saturday and they will be looking to barge through it here. Brisbane go into the match just outside the playoff zone but could move up to third with a win.

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers have hit a little bit of an inconsistent patch having lost two of their last three matches. The first of those was against the Brisbane Heat which was a bit of a surprise and while they rebounded strongly to see off the Adelaide Strikers they had the mother of all mares in their loss to the Perth Scorchers last time out. To be fair to them that loss doesn’t look as bad now as it did at the time with the way the Scorchers have kicked on since.

The big issue overall has been how their bowling attack has started to go around the park a little bit and they need to put a stop to that before the postseason comes along because the last time any team needs is a poorly timed mare with the ball. Although their batting didn’t fire at all in Perth, in the main they have gone pretty well in that department so there is that positive which they have to fall back on at present.

Brisbane Heat

A lot of credit has to go to the Brisbane Heat. They were going absolutely nowhere in the early stages of the campaign but they have turned things around to some tune and go into this contest with four wins from their last five outings, and were the width of the bat away from having a Super Over in the match they lost in that spell. Had it not been for the Perth Scorchers you could argue the Heat were the form team in the competition right now.

Everything needed to improve for the Heat from their first few performances and to their credit that is exactly what has happened. Their batting has come alive and one of the reasons why that department has come to the fore has been the fact that their bowling attack has started to get the job done. Confidence and momentum is very easy to pick up in these T20 competitions and the Heat certainly look to have it right now.

Team News

The Sydney Sixers will be without Ben Dwarshuis for this match as he sustained an injury in the defeat to the Perth Scorchers. He will be replaced by Lloyd Pope or Gurinder Sandhu depending on conditions.

The Brisbane Heat go into this match with the same squad which they used for the win over the Melbourne Stars last time out. Morne Morkel is progressing nicely but is likely to come into the reckoning in the next match rather than this one.

Betting

We saw some pretty clean hitting from the Brisbane Heat here in their last match and with the Sydney Sixers missing their best seamer in terms of opening the bowling and bowling at the death in Dwarshuis there is a good chance that the Heat will score fairly freely throughout this match as well. Although the Heat have been bowling well in recent times there is more than enough batting in this Sydney Sixers order to suggest that they will be able to score freely too.

That makes me think the over 34.5 boundaries is the way to go in this one. If the Brisbane Heat catch fire early on then they could take a decent chunk of this total down with them in the first few overs but we shouldn’t forget what the likes of Josh Philippe and Daniel Hughes have done on this ground either. With the exception of Mujeeb, there isn’t too much in the way of mystery in either of these attacks so I expect the boundaries to flow on this ground once again.
