Big Bash League 2021-22 – Perth Scorchers vs Adelaide Strikers Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the double header in the Big Bash League on Saturday sees the Perth Scorchers hosting the Adelaide Strikers but not at Optus Stadium, with the contest instead taking place at the Sydney Showground Stadium.

Perth came out on top in the one match they have played this season but since then their borders have been shut which means they have to go to Sydney to play this match. The Strikers have a win and a loss against the Renegades so far this term but can have a positive ledger if they win here.

Perth Scorchers

I don’t think you could say the performance of the Perth Scorchers in their opening match was a perfect one, or even a good one really, but you would expect that when you consider who they had missing for it. While the Scorchers have players away they will be intent on just winning rather than looking good. That is probably even more the case when you consider the upheaval they are now having to endure with regards home venues.

That sort of thing is only likely to spur the Perth Scorchers on I would suggest but I think moving forward in this tournament they are going to have to bat a whole lot better. That will largely come naturally when Mitch Marsh and Josh Inglis are back from Australia A duty. The good thing for Perth from that opening match is that their bowlers hit the ground running and with Tymal Mills to add to the attack they certainly look in good order in that regard.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers have a win and a loss to their record so far this season. They could easily have had two wins to their name because they threw a good winning position away in their opening match, but at the same time they could easily have lost both their first two games because the Melbourne Renegades were in control of their run chase in the second match only to completely collapse in a heap. I guess you could say their record is about right.

I think what we have seen from the Strikers so far this season is that they seriously need to find some improvements with the bat. After their performances in the Test match the Strikers won’t be seeing either of Alex Carey or Travis Head anytime soon and their current batting unit doesn’t look anywhere near good enough in their absence. The positive is that their bowlers have hit the ground running this term, especially in the second half of the innings where it is probably most important.

Team News

The Perth Scorchers remain without the trio of Tymal Mills who is completeing his quarantine and Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis who are away with Australia A so barring any last minute issue the former champions could well be unchanged.

Adelaide Strikers have named former Perth Scorchers bowler Fawad Ahmed in their squad for the first time and he could come into the side here although after such a comfortable win in the previous game it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if an unchanged XI is named.

Betting

As with the other match, there has been a lot of rain around in Sydney recently and while this ground usually isn’t too bad for batting you can’t fight Mother Nature and you’ve got to think an underprepared pitch will await the sides here. This match was originally scheduled to take place in Perth and only got moved when the Perth borders closed so the curator here didn’t exactly have much warning about preparing a pitch. When you then add on the rain as well it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a tough batting pitch here.

Even if the pitch is good for batting these two sides look much better with the ball than they do the bat, certainly while the Australia A match is going on, so that should keep the run scoring to a minimum. I don’t see the Strikers making more than 150 too often this season and the Scorchers look like they might struggle if they lose a couple of early wickets as well. That all adds up to me thinking there won’t be more than 315.5 runs here.
