The Perth Scorchers will look to return to the top of the Big Bash League 2021-22 table in the one game which takes place in the tournament on Monday. They host the Hobart Hurricanes but due to the Covid issues in Western Australia the game will actually be played in Hobart.
Perth go into the match in second place and only need the Bash Boost point to move back to the summit. Hobart Hurricanes sit in sixth but should they land all four points they will move up to third so there is plenty on the line here.
Perth Scorchers
Not only are the Perth Scorchers sitting in second place in the table, they are undefeated from their three matches having opened up with wins over the Brisbane Heat and the Adelaide Strikers. They then headed down to Tasmania to thrash the Hobart Hurricanes and now they will be looking for a repeat of that performance to leave them handily placed in the table. With Covid starting to spread around Australia all the time being as high in the table as possible can only be a good thing because the format of the season could change at any time.
Perth have come alive with the bat in their last two matches. I think that was to be expected because Mitchell Marsh was in such good form going into the tournament and he missed the opening two matches. The other thing Perth did in the previous game with the Hobart Hurricanes was bowl well. They took early wickets, got Hobart chasing a huge run rate and then squeezed the life out of them as they have done to teams throughout BBL history.
Hobart Hurricanes
The Hobart Hurricanes go into this match with a 1-2 record from their opening three matches. Surprisingly they have lost their two home matches and won their only away match so given that this match is on their home ground they will be hoping that trend changes here. I don’t think the Hurricanes are far away, and in fairness they couldn’t do much about Mitch Marsh’s sizzling innings in their previous match, but they could do with a win to stay in a relevant position in the table.
Hobart have won the match they got off to a good start in with the bat and lost the two they didn’t so they shouldn’t need too much in depth analysis to work out where improvements need to be made. They can’t rely on their opening pair all season so those below are going to need to build partnerships. The other thing they need to do is finish their bowling innings well when they have teams down. Twice they have surrendered a lot of runs when they have had a team four and five down.

Team News
The Perth Scorchers are carrying a 16-man squad around with them given that they can’t go back home. Tymal Mills was due to miss this match before it got switched to Hobart but he is available now so Perth could be unchanged.
The Hobart Hurricanes have been forced into a couple of changes to their squad from the one which lost to the Perth Scorchers last week. Scott Boland is away with Australia while Joel Paris picked up an injury in that match. Riley Meredith and Mitch Owen return from injury to take their places.
Betting
I like the sixes here. The line is 10.5 which looks on the low side when you consider that there were 14 sixes when these two met in the reverse meeting last week. There is more to come from these two teams as well when you consider that Colin Munro was out second ball and Matthew Wade fifth ball. Neither of those hit a six and nor did Josh Inglis or Harry Brook and they are all clean hitters of a cricket ball who can clear these ropes.
We saw the boundaries were perfectly accessible in that opening match between the two and that shouldn’t change here. Given that this ground has been given the Test match since then there might even be a short boundary which would help the sixes fly. The pitch is good for batting down in Hobart and these are two of the most powerful batting units in the competition. There isn’t a huge amount of mystery on show either so I’m expecting the sixes to continue to fly.
