There is a double header of action in the Big Bash League on Wednesday and it begins in Sydney where the Sydney Sixers will look to get back to winning ways when they play host to the Brisbane Heat.
These sides met over the weekend with the Heat running out comfortable winners in Brisbane and now the Sixers will look to use home advantage to get some revenge. This is at the North Sydney Oval though with the Test match currently going on at the SCG.
Sydney Sixers
The Sydney Sixers were on a bit of a roll when they headed to The Gabba at the weekend but they will know they let themselves down with the ball and paid the ultimate price. To be fair, there looked to be an element of taking liberties with their bowling unit with them leaving Chris Jordan out after just one match but the way everyone else bowled I don’t think it would have mattered either way. It goes without saying they need to bowl better here.
The credit to the Sydney Sixers in that loss last time out is that they kept on going and didn’t just give up when facing a pretty significant score. They got to work and had it not been for a controversial catch they might well have chased it down as unlikely as it was. That batting display feels significant because they hadn’t really hit their straps with the bat in hand in the tournament until then. If they can replicate that they’ll win a lot more matches than they lose.
Brisbane Heat
The Brisbane Heat weren’t really going anywhere in the tournament prior to that match against the Sydney Sixers on Sunday but having won that with the authoritative way that they did they will be hoping that match acts as a springboard for a good run of form. They know they have a couple of Test stars on the way back next week to bolster the team so if they can pick up a result here it would certainly help their chances of making the top five.
We finally saw a complete batting performance from the Brisbane Heat in that match and that was important because as we keep on saying they have put all their eggs in the batting basket so when the batters don’t deliver the goods they are vulnerable. The Heat nearly let the game go with the ball but they held their nerve when it mattered, even if they did need to bend the rules to get the job done. They will want a repeat with the bat and slightly better offering with the ball.

Key Players
James Vince is departing the scene shortly to go and play in one of the other competitions which begin next week and he will be eager to deliver the goods before he goes. He has clicked into form in recent games and a big score might not be far away.
Josh Brown might not have been as well known as some of his teammates prior to Sunday but he announced himself in no uncertain terms when went off at the top of the innings. On an even smaller ground here if Sydney don’t get him early he could hurt them again.
Betting
I like the sixes here. There were 21 of them on a cricket ground, albeit not the biggest one, when these two met at The Gabba on Sunday and now they meet on a rugby league ground which stages New South Wales’ one day matches in the 50 over competition which are generally all high scoring and full of sixes. There is an air of having to bat smarter in 50 over cricket to get through the overs which you don’t get in T20 so I’m expecting the sixes to flow here.
The sixes line for this one is 14.5 which based on what we saw on Sunday wouldn’t have been the worst line to attack had the match been at the Sydney Cricket Ground but as it is at a venue which is smaller than that it looks a really good one to get after. We might not have too many what you would call elite big hitters in this match but they don’t need to be that to clear ropes here. As an example, you wouldn’t call Steve Smith an elite hitter but in two 50 over games here a couple of years ago he hit nine sixes. That shows the potential for sixes here and I very much like the over.
