Tuesday’s action from the Big Bash League comes from the Gabba in Brisbane as the strugglers Brisbane Heat host the Hobart Hurricanes in what is a must win match for the home side.
The Heat have played three matches in this tournament and have lost them all and if they are to have any chance at all of qualifying for the semi-finals they can’t afford another defeat here.
Hobart have played twice with a massive defeat in their opening match and then a win over the Heat in their second and a win here will propel them into the playoff zone with over half of their season still to come.
Brisbane have made two changes to their squad. Both were enforced because of injury. Peter Forrest went down with injury in Perth which was a blow and he has been replaced but that only weakens an already light looking batting line up.
Hobart have unsurprisingly named an unchanged squad for this game. They look very well balanced with the bat and the ball and have real quality in both departments so they should feel good about themselves going into this match.
When these two sides met in Hobart the Hurricanes put up a big total with the bat and even though the Heat sent a couple of pinch hitters up the order to put a close gloss on proceedings they were well beaten.
I’ve said throughout this tournament that I don’t rate the Heat as good enough this season and they’ve proved me right in the first three games. I just don’t see them having the firepower with the bat or the ball to get the job done here so barring a blitz of McCullum or Gayle proportions from Lynn I’m expecting the Hurricanes to win this and win it with a fair bit to spare.
