MLS 2023 – Los Angeles FC vs Colorado Rapids Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The hurricanes in California over the weekend means that there is one MLS 2023 match on Wednesday night which sees the champions Los Angeles FC playing host to Colorado Rapids in the first game back in the competition for both teams.

Los Angeles FC resume their latest tilt at the title in second place in the Western Conference while the Rapids sit bottom of the same table and need the final leg of the campaign beyond belief if they are going to be involved in the postseason.

Where to watch

As with all matches this season, this one will be streamed live and in full on the Apple TV MLS Season Pass with the build-up beginning at 3.25am and the game kicking off shortly after. The match will also be streamed with the bookmakers.

Los Angeles FC

The champions Los Angeles FC rounded off the first part of the regular season with just the one win in six matches. They looked like a team who needed a break and it probably came at the right time. They showed in the Leagues Cup that they haven’t lost any of the quality that they had last season even though they went out in the quarter final. There was no shame in losing to one of the Mexican giants in a cracking contest.

The first two matches that they played in Leagues Cup they scored 11 goals which suggests that the break did them the world of good and if there is a good thing in going out in the quarter finals it probably comes in the fact that they had a week off to get themselves up for the conclusion to the MLS regular season where they will be out to make sure they finish in the top four in the West to ensure they get two of the three matches in the first round of the playoffs at home.

Colorado Rapids

The Colorado Rapids are enduring a bit of a season to forget. They will resume the campaign with three wins from 23 in the MLS and some 12 points off the play-in round of the playoffs with just 11 games remaining. They were one of the teams who needed a positive Leagues Cup campaign both to get some morale behind them but also to remind themselves of that winning feeling. It therefore didn’t help that they lost both of their group matches.

That means they have had the better part of a month without a game and now need to head to the champions needing to hit the ground running. The positive is that the Rapids have had the chance to secure the signing of a couple of additions to their squad since the last MLS match and they are both available for this one. They are going to need to make some difference though if Colorado are to go on the sort of run they need to get anything out of the season.

Betting

This match has all the hallmarks of an absolute blowout about it but it could be that the new recruits for the Colorado Rapids give them some lease of life and they are able to offer something to this match. They probably know deep down that their season is going nowhere and might be able to play with a bit of freedom and just give this one a good go and see if they can make the champions sweat a little bit. That would put me off asking LAFC to cover a sizeable handicap.

The goal line for this one sits at three and as they showed at the Leagues Cup, Los Angeles FC are more than capable of covering that on their own. I suspect that there is something resembling an attacking lease of life in the Colorado Rapids though. While they lost both of their Leagues Cup matches, they did score in both and they have had a few weeks now to dust themselves down and come up with a plan to attack the remainder of the season. I like the over here.
