There is just the one match in the Big Bash League on Sunday and it sees the Brisbane Heat looking to get off the mark for the season when they take on the Sydney Thunder at the Gabba.
Brisbane have played four matches in this tournament and in truth they haven’t looked like winning any of them really and apart from their captain Chris Lynn there has been absolutely nothing for them to write home about.
The Heat have really struggled with the bat in this competition. Injuries and international call ups haven’t helped them but another big reason why they have been found out has been the non-existent form of Lendl Simmons and the Brisbanites will be hoping the West Indian can find something here.
Sydney Thunder had looked so good in their opening three matches but they unravelled dramatically against the Hobart Hurricanes last time out and will need to avoid a hangover from that match here. Any win for the Thunder will take them clear at the top.
I’m not surprised that the Thunder have named an unchanged squad for this match but it remains to be seen whether Jake Doran or Kurtis Patterson get used. One man who certainly won’t make way is Clint McKay. He’s the leading wicket taker in the competition at the minute.
I can’t see the Heat winning this unless the Thunder produce something quite bizarre but this is the Thunder we are talking about. They specialise in the unthinkable so I can’t be backing them at the prices.
One thing that has been profitable for me in this tournament in the matches at the Gabba has been backing the sixes and that is what I will do here. The line is 11 or more and given that the two matches here so far this season have made up totals of 14 and 16 you would have to say that looks a little low.
Brisbane have been rubbish in the tournament but they’ve contributed sixes throughout their matches and their bowling attack looks so light they are always going to concede sixes with the ball so we shouldn’t be surprised at the totals here especially as the wicket is always so good to bat on.
With the likes of Simmons, Lynn, Reardon, Watson, Blizzard, Russell and Hussey all capable of clearing the ropes we don’t lack for hitting talent here and I don’t think we’ll lack for sixes by the end either.
