The Caribbean Premier League season continues on Saturday afternoon when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their second home match of the campaign.
Having won a low scoring first match of the season in Guyana on Thursday the home side will be looking for another win which will send them four points clear at the top while St Kitts and Nevis will be looking to make up for making a mess of their home leg of the tournament.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Having done ever so well to restrict Jamaica Tallawahs to just 100 on this ground on Thursday night the Amazon Warriors made hard work of getting over the line in the end it must be said. They hardly played a shot in anger in the first 10 overs but finally the dew took effect and that gave the batsmen enough bad balls to put away and seal a nervy victory.
One positive from that match was that Guyana showed that they have a bowling attack which is perfectly suited to this wicket, as we thought it might have been all along. If anything they could do with another spinner but we won’t nit-pick just yet.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
St Kitts and Nevis have played their four home matches and having only won one of them they have plenty of catching up to do in their remaining six matches but if there is a positive for them coming in here then it is that their attack looks ideally suited to this wicket and the longer the tournament goes along that attack should come into its own.
The bowling attack has been letting them down so far in the tournament so it will be interesting to see if they can stand up and be counted. If they can then they know they have the batting depth to see off most sides in the competition without fail.
Betting
We know what to expect from this match. We’re going to get another slow and low wicket which is probably going to turn more and more as the match goes on and unless something crazy happens this will be a low scoring match.
It could well be that the match comes down to the battle of the spinners where we have Veerasammy Permaul and Adam Zampa up against Samuel Badree and Tabraiz Shamsi and I quite like the pairing of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots there I have to say. Badree is a consistent spinner in this competition and Shamsi has already come to the party this season.
If they need it I think the Patriots have the longer batting depth too and that could well be significant so in what I anticipate to be another low scoring match I’ll side with the visitors here.
As I expect the match to be low scoring I’m also going to take the 12/5 about there not being a 50 in the match. There wasn’t a 50 in the opening game here and only two men made it into the 30s. With the sun beating down on this pitch it isn’t going to play easier as the game goes on and with both sides haven’t excellent bowling attacks for the conditions the chances of someone getting a 50 are a lot higher than these odds suggest.
