The final match of the league phase in the Caribbean Premier League season sees the Jamaica Tallawahs taking on the St Lucia Zouks for the second time in as many days to conclude the Florida leg of the tournament.
Both sides now know they will be in next week’s playoffs. Jamaica will get two goes at making the final should they need them while St Lucia will be playing knockout cricket right from the start but before then they have one last opportunity to entertain with some freedom in this match.
Jamaica Tallawahs
You would have to say it was a rusty performance from the Tallawahs on Saturday when they were given a bit of a brutal beating by St Lucia. With that in mind they should be a little more up to speed in this one but they will need to be. They were especially poor with the ball and it is paramount that they are not that bad again.
There is one last chance for Chris Gayle to fire before the playoffs. He showed signs that he was about to set Florida alight on Saturday, belting two sixes in a quick cameo but we are used to seeing much deeper efforts from him in this tournament and you feel if the Tallawahs are to win this event they will need him at his best next week.
St Lucia Zouks
The home leg of this tournament came at exactly the right time for the St Lucia Zouks and since they went home they have been excellent. After Saturday’s win they have now won four of their last five matches and they will go into the playoffs next week as the form side whatever happens in this match.
Their top three are starting to really fire which is never a bad thing in this format of the game and they have enough depth to take a good total to a fantastic one as we saw on Saturday however the biggest improvement in them has been with the ball. The arrival of Jerome Taylor has really been significant and could prove important as the Zouks embark on their first playoff run.
Betting
Although I think the poor performance of Jamaica Tallawahs on Saturday was down to rustiness having not played for a while I’m not sure coming on for the run alone will bridge the huge gap there was in that match.
I wasn’t convinced conditions would suit Jamaica on Saturday anyway and they never really seemed comfortable, unlike the St Lucia Zouks who looked like they had been playing here forever. The attainable boundaries suits the aggressive nature of their batting and the pace and bounce in the wicket works well with their bowling.
I can’t believe Jamaica will be as bad as they were on Saturday again here but I still think the Zouks have them covered and so I’m on Darren Sammy’s men once again on Sunday.
