cinch Championships Tennis 2024 – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The first round of the cinch Championships concludes at Queens Club in London on Tuesday as we have a much busier schedule on what is the second day of action at the famous ATP 500 grass court tournament.

We get to see the top two seeds on show over the course of the schedule on Tuesday while three of the best that Britain have to offer are up as well with two of them coming on the main court. We’re set for a decent day of tennis.

Centre Court

We have four matches to be played out in full on the Centre Court on Monday and another which will finish having failed to do so on Monday. It is the number two seed, the beaten finalist from last season, Alex de Minaur who gets us up and running when he looks to build on winning the title in Hertogenbosch last week. He goes up against Lorenzo Musetti before we see Alejandro Tabilo and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina concluding their match from Monday. The defending champion Carlos Alcaraz gets his title defence underway in the next game when he faces off against Francisco Cerundolo before Andy Murray takes to this Centre Court for what might be the last time when he meets Alexei Popyrin. Jack Draper won the title in Stuttgart last week and starts his quest for the Queens crown with a match against Mariano Navone.

Court 1

Three matches take place over on Court 1 on Tuesday and they all have an American feel to them. The number four seed Taylor Fritz gets his campaign underway to open up the action when he meets the qualifier Taro Daniel while the Hertogenbosch finalist Seb Korda will then look to get the better of Karen Khachanov. The last match of the day on this part of the grounds sees the British player Dan Evans go in search of some form when he meets Brandon Nakashima.

Outside Courts

Two other courts are in action for the singles on Tuesday with another slate of three games over on Court 5 which begins with Matteo Arnaldi taking on the eighth seed Ugo Humbert before Tommy Paul meets Sebastian Baez. A really good schedule on Court 5 on Tuesday concludes with the number six seed Ben Shelton looking to make it through when he faces Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The other first round match takes place on Court 2 where Tomas Martin Etcheverry goes up against the British wildcard Billy Harris.

Betting

I like two bets on Tuesday and they both come in matches which involve British players with the first of them coming in the form of Alexei Popyrin to beat Andy Murray. It is clear that we are in the twilight of the career of Murray. He is losing to players he could have beaten with his eyes shut even as recently as 18 months ago and we saw that in Stuttgart last week when he was downed by Marcos Giron. Popyrin pushed Tommy Paul to a deciding set in Hertogenbosch last week and came through qualifying here so he is already enjoying a decent grass court campaign and is a player with a decent enough record on the surface, as you would expect with someone with the service weapons he has. I’m sure Murray will give this all he’s got but if Popyrin plays a clean match he should win out here.

I expect a Brit to lose on the Centre Court but over on Court 2 I think it could be a good day for the wildcard Billy Harris who has to be backed to beat the very definition of a clay court specialist in the form of Tomas Martin Etcheverry. To date in his career the Argentine has played eight matches on grass and he has won just two of them. One of those wins was against someone ranked outside the top 400 in the world while the other was at Wimbledon last year where he outlasted fellow clay courter Bernabe Zapata Miralles in a match which lasted nearly five hours. This one won’t last that long and I expect the Argentine to be put out of his misery much quicker than that. Over last season and this, Harris is 17-8 on the grass so he is clearly a lot more comfortable on it and I expect that to ring true on the scoreboard here. I’ll side with the Brit.
