The group stage of the Copa America comes to a close on Monday night when the final matches in Group C will be played out, with still plenty on the line before we hit the knockout stages of the South American showpiece.
Uruguay and Chile know that they will be playing in the knockout stages but they will meet to decide who wins the group while Ecuador and Japan will battle it out with the winner also going through at the expense of Paraguay.
Chile vs Uruguay
We already know that Chile and Uruguay will be progressing in this tournament but who will win the group and get Peru in the quarter final is yet to be determined. There looks to be a real advantage for winning this group as whoever doesn’t will be facing Colombia in the last eight.
Both these sides have looked good against the lesser teams in the group. Uruguay slipped up against Japan but they played well in the match and just couldn’t find the winner. Chile offered plenty in both their outings and while they’ve both looked good offensively, they have both got question marks about them m defensively which makes for an appealing match, or it would do if both weren’t already through. I’m not sure how both will approach this one. You would think they would both look to win and if they do we might see goals here but something is holding me back from backing it.

Ecuador vs Japan
The other match is effectively a straight knockout between Ecuador and Japan with the caveat that if neither win they are both going to be leaving the tournament after this match. That should see us in for quite an exciting clash here.
Ecuador looked much better against Chile than Uruguay although it is pointless judging them on that outing. Japan were a whole lot more lively in their second match which makes me think we are going to see a decent enough game here. I happen to think both these sides are going to look to attack anyway but the sheer nature of this match in terms of both having to win means that when the first goal goes in this has the potential to open right up. Given all that, I think over 2.75 goals is likely to land here in a match which should catch fire from the start.
