CPL 2018 – Barbados Tridents vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Betting Preview

After the shambles of the wet wicket at Warner Park the Caribbean Premier League is back at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Friday evening where there shouldn’t be the same sort of issues as the Barbados Tridents take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Things are getting vital for the Tridents after three defeats in a row to open up their home campaign. With just two home games to come the need to win is becoming stronger and stronger if they are going to make it into the postseason. Guyana are in a decent position and a win here would only enhance their claims.

Barbados Tridents

After the crazy washout on Thursday evening the Barbados Tridents have slipped to the bottom of the table and are three points away from St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in fourth place. They have this match in hand of the Patriots though so a win here would have them right back in contention. Anything else and you get the impression their season will be done.

The same issue remains in place for the Tridents. Their batting just can’t get going at all. Their top order is not functioning as one and as such they continue to fall below a par score. If they are going to get anything out of this match they are going to have to make sure that they bat properly with a solid order firing nicely.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

It has been a pretty successful campaign for the Guyana Amazon Warriors but they will have been disappointed to slip up against the St Lucia Stars two matches ago. They did not show that disappointment though when they took care of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their first home match in their last game.

With two more home matches to come the Amazon Warriors are in a good position to launch a title bid. If they win this match then they should be looking at making it into the qualifier in the postseason. If they are to harbour hopes of winning the tournament then their top order is going to need to come to the party as a whole rather than individual efforts.

Team News

There can’t be many more options for Barbados Tridents to use in terms of new players so they are going to have to assess what they have got and find the best way to utilise them. They look fine with the ball so another batsman coming in would be helpful.

Guyana Amazon Warriors may decide to go unchanged for this match after a fine win last time out but they do need to find some batsmen with some form. Sherfane Rutherford could be used in that regard.

Betting

We’ve seen throughout the tournament that the Barbados Tridents just can’t get anything going with the bat. I wonder if they will be better off batting second but if they are unable to do that then you have to fear for them. Guyana have shown they can win matches batting first or second but they’ve also shown that their batting is certainly not their strong point.

With all that in mind I think 12.5 sixes is going to be too high here. Barbados haven’t hit many sixes throughout the competition and they go up against one of the better bowling attacks in the competition here. Guyana aren’t a huge hitting side either with the odd exception so I’m happy to be on the under here.
